I rented the Hyman Retreat from the first of September 2006 through January 2007. This house is well appointed and maintained. Views from the dining area and from the outside decks are great. The owners frequently look in on the property and use it themselves as a vacation retreat so it really does feel like a home rather than a rental.

We had a wonderful time in Vermont! We did a lot of sledding and hiking and built a snowman too. We got the x-country skis, but then the snow melted, so we didn't actually get them out onto the snow. We also had a wonderful meal at Ariel's Pub on Sunday night. I loved the house and all that light and open space! We hope to return again sometime. Brenda New Years 2005

"We stumbled across the Hyman's lovely Vermont home on the Web nearly 3
years ago (when we took our first vacation as a couple!) Now we visit
every winter to enjoy the Hyman's well-architected, open, comfortable
home, in this charming nook called Brookfield (population 1,000). The
home feels to be built completely of windows, and those windows frame
stunning vistas of green mountains and sprawling farmland. The home
itself is so well-constructed, as it's so magical to know it's bitterly
cold outside, yet we're surrounded by amazing light and cozy warmth
inside, the sort of warmth that allows you to sprawl out on the hardwood
floors to read a book. Each year, we look forward to sledding down the
10 acres of land that surround the home or cross-country skiing across
the broad well-packed fields. The town of Brookfield is the most
charming place on Earth, home of the annual ice harvest festival where
locals gather on the frozen-over Sunset Pond to relive and celebrate the
early 1900s, when ice was "harvested" directly from the lake and stored
for later months. Ariel's Restaurant & Pond Village Pub is the only
restaurant in town, and for good reason: We have not found another
restaurant in Vermont (or Boston, for that matter!) who can compare to
the exquisite cuisine, assembled with such care by a local husband
(sommelier) and wife (chef) team. The town is so very special to us,
that we're even considering having our wedding there! We're so thankful
to the Hyman's who have nurtured such a lovely, cozy home in a magical
place, and who allow us to share in that magic each year."

We are thinking of doing our annual pilgrimage to Brookfield. We do love it there. Ariel's is amazing... We really love that house. It has fond memories for us...We are happy to act as a reference for any future renters. Best Regards, Don (a repeat guest).

"A great rental house. It's open and airy and has everything a family
needs, including a huge loft area that kids love. A great base station for
hiking, biking, skiing and swimming, depending on the season. Although it's
quiet and isolated, you're just a couple of minutes' walk from the the
lake, the Floating Bridge, and the terrific little Vermont hamlet of
Brookfield."

We had a wonderful time in Vermont. The weather was perfect. It rained only once, other than that it was in the 70's. The foliage was best just east of us towards New Hampshire and along the 91. The views were breathtaking! The house is so beautiful, the wood floors, large kitchen, and the view! We had
a difficult time leaving the house. We are so grateful you shared your vacation home with us and hope that we can return in the future.
