Your very own, completely private, Colonial Williamsburg-style cottage in Bucks County on the Delaware River is just 13 miles south of New Hope and Lambertville, and 25 minutes from Princeton. New York City is one hour away by train; the Liberty Bell and Independence Hall in Philadelphia are about 30 minutes away by car. Sesame Place is a short 10-minute drive.
Built by a cabinetmaker and furnished with 18th-century reproduction furniture and Oriental rugs, the cottage is ideal for weeklong vacations, weekend getaways, house-hunting visits, or temporary lodging for relocated executives.
As many of our guests have said, this is the perfect place to unwind—especially if your idea of heaven is curling up in front of the fire with a good book, a glass of wine, and your favorite music on the CD player.
The cottage will accommodate two people comfortably, four in a pinch. The main bedroom is furnished with a double canopy bed, and the "tavern room" off the kitchen has a twin bed and pop-up trundle — perfect for children traveling with their parents or as extra sleeping space for close friends and family members.
Enjoy easy access to Revolutionary War sites such as the Washington's Crossing Museum, the Old Barracks in Trenton, and William Penn's reconstructed home and farm, Pennsbury Manor. There are lots of award-winning restaurants in historic buildings up and down the river and canal. Most encourage you to bring your own wine or spirits.
Whether you want to pick berries or apples in season, visit historic sites, walk or bike along the Delaware Canal Towpath, or test your kayaking skills against the Delaware River, your hosts will be happy to advise you. But mostly, they'll suggest that you relax, kick back, and take it easy.
The cottage is the creation of a high-tech, husband-and-wife writing team. They live in a 200-year-old farmhouse that shares the 3.5-acre riverfront property. Online and Internet experts, their computer and non-computer books (The Art of Hitting .300 with Charley Lau, for example) have sold over one million copies. Their most recent project is a book/CD package designed to show vacation-rental owners how to successfully rent and manage their properties. (For more information, visit their FullyBookedRentals.com Web site.)
Needless to say, the cottage is equipped with high-speed Internet access (cable-connect and wireless) as well as phone jacks in every room for dial-up Internet connections. We also provide bed linens and an ample supply of fluffy white towels, a pair of terrycloth robes, a starter supply of paper products, and fresh-ground coffee for your first morning at the cottage.
