Villa Rentals Reviews for Huge Log Home in NC Mountains! in Beech MountainAugust 24, 2003Reviewer: Merle Oxford From: Austin TXI had been dreaming about our family reunion at the Great Escape in July for many months. It most certainly did not disappoint! When we drove up to the lodge the first time I recognized it immediately from the picture on the website, and it was even more beautiful than I had hoped it would be. And things just got better from there. There were eighteen of us, ranging in age from the 60's to 6, and each and every one of us enjoyed the lodge and surrounding amenities very much. We all had plenty of space, both for sleeping and for pursuing our group and individual interests. The kitchen was very well equipped for cooking for a lot of people, and we especially appreciated the two refrigerators and two ovens. The interior of the lodge was very attractively and comfortably furnished. I especially liked the huge dining room with skylights, which had wonderful heavy (possibly hand-carved?) tables, benches and stools. Another favorite place was the deck, which had a beautiful view of the woods and was quiet and private. The Beech Mt. area is beautiful, too. We had a family softball game at a nearby park, where the kids also played basketball and tennis. The Club was great for swimming and golf. Most of the family also had a great horseback riding experience in Banner Elk, and we attended the Scottish Highland games at Grandfather Mt. There were so many activities and so much to see that we didn't have enough time, so we hope to go back someday. And my husband says, "don't forget about how hot the water was, and that it never ran out!" P.S. And the weather was so lovely, especially compared to TX weather! August 09, 2003Reviewer: Wendy Pottinger From: Palm Beach Gardens, FLWe had a great time at The Great Escape Lodge. With 5 families, 17 people, there was plenty of room for all concerned. (Boys downstairs, girls upstairs and the adults in the middle. Even a room for Grandma to herself on the main floor.) The pool and amenities were within walking distance and the hikers and golfers found places very near to enjoy their pastimes. The drive to white water rafting was beautiful and the river was incredible. Everything you could possibly need for cooking was found at the house. Our families each take a night to cook and all enjoyed working in the wonderful kitchen. With windows open we enjoyed the cool nights and beautiful days. Our family is already planning or next visit to the great escape. September 08, 2002Reviewer: Julie Lirette From: Augusta, GeorgiaWe had a wonderful time at this fabulous house! We had a fairly large group and no one felt cramped. Three levels of bedroom space meant that we were able to give everyone their privacy. There was even and extra part of the house where all of the children could sleep together. The living room is spacious and has a nice big stone fireplace. The dining room, with its many tables, is big enough to where we could all eat together. The area is convenient to skiing, restaurants and shopping. I can't say enough about this great house and the wonderful time we had being there over New Year's Eve. We can't wait to go back! September 08, 2002Reviewer: Eric Porr From: Great escape lodgeGreat place for a large group. Lots of bedrooms, all the Kitchen equipment that you will need and excellent cleaning service. One time we left some items at the cabin and they carefully pack the items up (breakable) and shipped them to us. That going the extra mile for a customer. September 07, 2002Reviewer: Mark Moran From: OrlandoMy family stayed in this cozy and rustic cabin, and we loved it. If you want to get away from it all, this is the place. I would definetly stay there again if it was part of a big group (it can accommidate a lot of people). There are plenty of 1 day adventures within 30 to 40 minutes away and it is a beautiful area. Highly recommended. September 06, 2002Reviewer: Bonnie MOran From: Orlando, FL
Great Escape Lodge in Beech Mountain, NC. was a fantastic week long adventure for all of our multi generational family. We had children, teens, parents, and grandparents. We all found things to do and places to go to add to the peacefull and beautiful cabin on top of the mountain. All of the rooms were large and very comfortable. Lots of space to just sit around and visit and eating was not a problem with the many tables and chairs. Pleanty of food storage and cooking areas as well as a washer dryer. We saw deer in the back yard as well as other critters. We went for hikes on trails and slid down water falls, all with in walking distance of the cabin. Golf is near by, blueberry picking, horseback riding, and shopping. What a great time our family had at the Great Escape Lodge last summer. A memory they will never forget. We hope to go back again soon. September 06, 2002Reviewer: Cindy Little From: Great Escape Lodge, Boone NC
We use the Great Escape Lodge for church retreats. It is located conveniently 1.8 miles from the ski slopes. The walkie talkies picked up quite well from lodge to slopes. It is spacious and well equipped. The large self-starting gas grill was truly a life saver. We are bringing about 40 in our young family group retreat in January and about 35 with our youth retreat in February. September 06, 2002Reviewer: Wayne From: Augusta Ga.I have rented this lodge on several occasions for a 16 member golf group. Service, accomadations, location have all been first class and I highly recommend as a good value for your dollars. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
