Villa Rentals Reviews for Stunning 4 Season Lakefront Vacation Home with Hot Tub in WinchesterJuly 17, 2010Reviewer: Diane From: Massachusetts and North Caro
We spent 4th of July weekend here and had a wonderful time. The weather was rather hot, so we spent most of our time in the lake. It was beautiful - clean and warm water. It was great to have so many toys - floats, kayaks, paddle boat, and canoe. The kids all learned to paddle and to fish. My husband loved all the nearby golfing. October 14, 2009Reviewer: The Lynch Family From: Wrentham, MaSpent Columbus weekend at The Lake House and had a wonderful time. The weather was so nice we were able to use the paddle boat and canoe. My 2 sons each jump in the water to the delight of the children. This was a great house for us, so much to do and so well equipped. The pictures don't do it justice. Hope to come back again. Dear Paul and Anne, August 12, 2009Reviewer: AnonymousWhat a sweet retreat this was. The detail listed on the site was great, but when we arrived, we just couldn't believe how much there was to this beautiful home and how much we could do. It has it all and there is plenty of room. Thank you Paul & Anne (owners) for being so great and for thinking of everything. The Heffron Family - Hanover, MA July 05, 2009Reviewer: The Whaley Pod From: Weston, FLThis is our second stay at your wonderful Forest Lake house. The first was 12/20-30/2008 and was better than described on your website. Great to be back in NH after 5 years in FL. Lucy, the dog, loved the snow. We just completed our second stay at Forest Lake before, during and after our daughter's wedding at Wilson Pond in Keene. The minute I walked through the front door I felt a peace and calm come over me and felt that all wedding plans and expectations would fall into place, and they did!!! Even the weather cooperated. Our family has decided that we will definitely be "renter repeaters" whenever possible. Thank you Paul and Anne for your wonderful home and your attention to detail. We lacked for nothing. It was great to see everything leafed out and green as opposed to covered in snow back in Dec '08. Beautiful any time of the year. We can't wait to come back! The Whaley Pod June 03, 2009Reviewer: Heidi From: Boston, MAA wonderful get-away. We stayed for three nights and wished we could have stayed for longer. The house is tucked away in New Hampshire alongside a beautiful lake. The house had just the right amount of space for our 3 couple group, though we could have comfortably fit more. We loved the great cathedral ceiling living room/dining area. There is a fully functional & stocked kitchen--we made all of our meals there plus one on the outdoor grill. The outdoor hot-tub was a fun spot, and easily fit 6 peeps. The lake itself entertained us for hours, cayaking/canoeing/paddle-boating. The place is private enough that you have your own space, but is not so remote that you never see neighbors. It was just right for us. Paul & Anne (the owners) were also very responsive to any questions/concerns we had, and were very helpful in all phases of the rental. We hope we can make it back. May 13, 2009Reviewer: sue roe From: red bank,njThis a real gem. We have been renting homes for 30 years on lakes and we would have to say this is one of the best. There is something for everyone to do from the very young to the senior citizen. There ar e kayaks, canoes, pedal boats, bikes, basketball, dvds, hot tub and alot more. Paul and Anne are very hospitable and great to work with. You can have a relaxing time on the deck and hot tub or make it as busy as you want. We would love to rent again. Thank you Paul and Anne for a great long weekend. April 15, 2009Reviewer: Laurie Maloney From: Stratford, NJWe've rented many places over the years and this one was the best -- by far! Our 15 yr. old son loved making fires in the wood stove. The kids' room was a God send with their own tv and vcr. Our kids also loved the ping pong, darts and air hockey in the basement. We took the kayaks out a couple of times and the paddle boat. The whole property was beautifully decorated, very inviting and very cozy. We felt completely at home and will definetly return; perhaps when the weather is a little bit warmer. April 11, 2009Reviewer: Lianna and Brian From: Boulder, CO
We had a wonderful time at the house! We weren't sure it would be as good as described on-line, but it certainly was. The British members of our group commented many times on how wonderfully "kitted out" the place was. We were two couples, two six-year-olds and a teenager and there was more than enough space and things to do for all of us, despite the fact that it rained much of the time. When it wasn't raining we had a wonderful time taking the boats out on the lake. We would love to come back in other seasons. March 31, 2009Reviewer: Sarah G From: Canterbury, CTThis property was absolutely wonderful - we had two families stay with small children (under age 4) and couldn't have enjoyed ourselves more. The house had more than enough amenities and activities to keep both the children and the adults occupied for hours. We look forward to returning next year! Thank you, Paul and Anne, for opening up your home to our group. November 09, 2008Reviewer: William Donahoe From: Rocky Hill, CT
Dear Paul & Ann...We had a wonderful time. We were there from Sept. 21-28 and the weather was very nice. Our two cairn terriers loved being out in the woods. The new bathroom just made things more convenient. Thank you so much. November 06, 2008Reviewer: RJ/Rachel and Friends From: Boston, MAPerfect place to get away for a weekend. They have everything you'd need, and the deck is FOUR levels, something that is under-represented in the photos. Between the deck that leads to the lake, the spacious house and great room, and the hot tub, you couldn't ask for anything more. Owners are very responsive. Highly recommended. October 26, 2008Reviewer: Ellen Leslie Ruth & Kim From: Boston MA
Paul & Anne, October 08, 2008Reviewer: Dr. Arnie & Bonnie Jostock From: Dawson, MnWe just returned from a weeks stay at the Harris' lake home and had a great time. We have a niece who lives in Keene, NH and chose this property to be close to her. We enjoyed our stay the home is warm and inviting and large enough so that everyone could have their own "space". The fall foilage was goregous we explored the Cannon Mountain area, went "backroading" through Vermont and spent a day in Gloucester, Mass where we went on the 7 Seas whale watching adventure...fabulous time with over 50 whales sighted that day! Had my 88 year old Mother along and she had no problem walking the steps to the lake. We would certainly reccommend this home to anyone. September 08, 2008Reviewer: Debbie & Josue Gaviria From: Mahopac , NYWe had a great time at the house. The water was wonderful and the house lived up to our expectations. Everything was clean and there were many amenities. Highly recommend it. Would like to go back. August 27, 2008Reviewer: Samantha Harris From: Bridgewater, MAThe house was AMAZING. Pictures do not do justice for just how large and cozy the house truely is. After returning from vacation and showing pictures to family and friends, several asked me to forward the link to them. I cannot say enough good things about this house, and look forward to possibly renting again. August 25, 2008Reviewer: Nick & Jen Searles From: Shelton, CT

Paul and Anne have provided a friendly, warm, beautiful, and incredibly relaxing place to stay. We have stayed twice and will go back. It was too early in the season for swimming, but sitting in the hot tub gazing at the sun (or moon) setting on the lake surely cured what ailed us! And a special feature, for us, is that they welcome pets. Being able to bring our dog with us on vacation made us all happy. Plus, being so close to Keene is fun, because it's a college town so has quite a variety of fun places for dining and shopping. October 16, 2007Reviewer: Tricia & Joost van Brakel From: Norwalk, CTPaul & Anne - What a great find! Your house was the perfect place to enjoy a week away with family. We were celebrating my parent's 40th anniversary & our 1st anniversary. Great days & nights hanging by the hottub, going for a canoe ride, fishing, walking, sitting in front of the outdoor fireplace, cooking great meals.... It was all just so easy - which was exactly what we all needed! Thanks again! August 29, 2007Reviewer: Laura & Rob Totaro From: Chester, NY

Paul and Anne, September 19, 2006Reviewer: TerryWe had a great time at your house. The hottub was wonderful, my son-in-law and husband enjoyed the fishing. We all hope to stay again. Thanks Terry and Tom and family September 06, 2006Reviewer: Karen From: S.Salem, NY
This is a wonderful house to stay at. You walk in and immediately feel like one of the family. There are notes around to make your stay as comfortable as possible -- as quickly as possible. Plus, with the fully-outfitted kitchen, water toys, and other recreational amenities, there's something for everyone. There were only 2 of us, and our dog, but there's room for many here. The house is unique, the floorplan is unique, and Paul and Anne have a fun and comfortable way of decorating it. June 12, 2006Reviewer: Doug Shaw From: Houston, Texas
We had a fantastic time at Forest Lake. It was definately a home away from home. Every amenity that you could think of was available, and then some. June 06, 2006Reviewer: janet hadlockbeing their was like finding a new discovery everyday. There were odd toys (binocular glasses) and books of all kinds (scary campfire stories---"wheres my toe?")even funny toilet humor found in the bathroom.Behind every cabinet door, in every drawer was a cute sticky message like a tip on how to make an all natural furniture cleaner,or a note of how to make the surround sound pipe through the whole house,or just a heads up note on where to find some nightcrawlers. These people put alot of thought into what their guest would enjoy and you feel so welcome as if your encouraged to enjoy all they have all the way down to the sexy cleaning atire when its time to vacume a spill. It was just wonderful.it would be hard to find a place so welcoming with such wonderful trustworthy owners.Definately a hard find now a days. It's worth every penny and believe me i'm picky.....You will surley be pleased.... April 25, 2006Reviewer: Kathy From: Dennis and Ian Gragnolati, W
Dear Paul and Anne, April 24, 2006Reviewer: AnonymousWhat a wonderful get-away! Although the weather did not cooperative for our weekend at the house, there was still plenty to do in the rain - from sitting in the hot tub to curling up next to the fire to watch movies - we had a great time and would recommend it to families and friends alike. April 13, 2006Reviewer: leigh cart From: miami, floridaThis place was just what we were looking for. It was a quiet, friendly, spot yet convenient to wonderful restaurants and shopping. Besides the beautiful lake to enjoy, there was a lovely yard and a house full of things to do for every age and taste. The home,so fully equipped with all of the millions of little things you can not live without but can not possible take on vacation, made our vacation perfect! February 24, 2006Reviewer: AnonymousYou can't find a better value for your money! Paul and Ann think of everything here! From labels, to extra hats, gloves, scarves, to everything a kitchen could possibly need, you are covered. We played some intense (and not so intense!) hockey games, played a lot of board games, and cooked some fantastic meals! It was a superb weekend; I didn't want to return home! I am already looking forward to renting again next year. Huge props to a great experience :). December 27, 2005Reviewer: Donna ViitanenStaying at this wonderful cabin close to Keene and Winchester, was the perfect place, in the ideal location and we couldn't have asked for more. With so much to offer, it took us a week to start exploring the surrounding areas. We appreciated having "a home away from home!" The "poo's" say thanks as well. November 21, 2005Reviewer: Katherine Nagle From: West Haven, CTWhat a wonderful, relaxing weekend! Gorgeous does not describe the view. We had a great time and were so happy to be able to bring the dogs! We never left the cozy, well equipped house except to take a few walks by the water. Just what we needed before the busy holiday season! Hopefully, we will be back in the spring. September 26, 2005Reviewer: Susan & Maureen Monahan From: West Roxbury & Brockton, MA"ONE SIZE FITS ALL" - If you are reading these comments to help you decide if this is a good place to stay I can tell you that I am one picky customer and I, and my guests, were very happy with this vacation choice. You know the amenities from what the owner shares in the description. Now, I'll tell you what you don't know...This is not one of those cottages you see on the internet that has another similar cottage 2 feet away; this is a private home, and it is one of the nicer ones in the area. There is so much to do it is difficult to choose. The layout of the property is one that suits many people with many interests, at the same time. I have not spent this much time playing in the water since I was a kid. On the other hand, I was wishing for rain so I could cuddle inside. The magazines, books, cds and dvds are recent and you actually want to view them! The house has a lot of character and is fun to be in. I know, years from now, my guests will say, "Hey, remember the time we stayed at the house on the lake? I really enjoyed myself...." And THAT is the measure of success. September 15, 2005Reviewer: Jeanne Cole From: Chicago Illinois
Comment Text: We couldn't have asked for a nicer place to stay! The house literally has everything you could ask for (sometimes several of a given item!) The configuration of the house was perfect for extended family (4 adults, 3 children) as one could always find a corner to get away from the crowd. Our kids loved the sleeping porch, as it was like having their own getaway, with a view of the lake! The lake was wonderful for swimming. With the combination of shallow water (that extends fairly far out) and the deeper water around the dock, our kids could play in the water all day, as well as swim or jump off the dock. It really worked well for swimmers of differing skill levels. We drove to many of the small towns around, checking out numerous ice cream stores, and some of us climbed Mt. Monadnock. But mostly, we just enjoyed hanging out in such a beautiful place. An idyllic vacation. September 01, 2005Reviewer: Joyce DeSanctis From: Danvers, MAThis lakefront home was a true gem. It contains every conceivable luxury, from heated towel bars to sound system. The many water vehicles make it fun for kids and adults alike. The interior decorator deserves an award. And the kitchen is a dream. 5 stars for this home away from home! June 25, 2005Reviewer: Paula From: Everett MAI barely know where to start. This place FAR surpasses what you see & read here. Every word is to the ‘T”. The call from Paul shortly after our arrival was truly a wonderful touch and just the beginning of what we were to discover. A welcome 'guest instruction book', everything perfectly labeled, the movies (vcr/dvd), cds, books, games, toys, pots/pans, utensils, the grills, fishing rods, bikes/little tot toys, hot tub, boat collection more than exceeded our expectations. Not to mention the menus, maps, ‘things to do’ brochures. We were limited with our outings due to the dog but so thoughtful. It was so great to go on a vaca with our dog (beagle)---she absolutely loved it---except for the lake (she's a city girl). Meeting Roz was an added pleasure---the housekeeper, warm friendly, very nice. We had friends up for 2/3 days (a couple like us, early 40’s with their 2 year old and another friend with his 19 year old daughter and best friend) and EVERYONE had something to do. IT was amazing! We all (and I mean all of us exc. The 2 yo) loved reading the previous guest comment books and strived to come up with a name for the house----with no real success but we all pretty much had the same adjectives: amazing, incredible, peaceful, tranquil, retreat, oasis, fun, interesting, serene--- my suggestion was “Nestled Niche” ---I could go on. For the owners: thoughtful, GENEROUS, detailed and obviously very proud of their home! The fresh flowers on the table, seemingly a small touch, were really enjoyed. I recut/watered them every 2 days and they still looked good when we left this morning :-(. Can't wait to come back---hopefully 8/06. Thanks again for a truly wonderful enjoyable, relaxing vacation. June 13, 2005Reviewer: Anonymous
Thanks to the Harris family for sharing your beautiful home with us. Our family had a great time at the lake. There is so much to do at the house that you don't need to leave. Everyone enjoyed the boats, swimming and fishing in the lake. The water was clean and refreshing on those humid days. We were lucky to have all great sunny days with only a couple thunder showers at night. The book and movie collection kept everyone entertained in the evening. I could go on and on about everything we enjoyed. Just pack your clothes, food, sheets and towels!! This place has everything. Thanks for making our first family vacation rental a great experience. The Harris' are great people to work with! April 26, 2005Reviewer: AnonymousIf your looking for a relaxing vacation, Paul and Anne's vacation home on Forest Lake is the place to go. My fiance and I had a great time. We enjoyed sitting in the hot tub outside and looking at the beautiful view of the lake. Enjoyed all the activities to do right there at the house like fishing on the dock, playing ping pong and darts downstaires, and trying on the crazy hats. A great selection of books to look threw and read one on the hammack outside. Thank you Paul and Anne for a wonderful vacation, can't wait to go back next year. March 24, 2005Reviewer: Joy Lootsma From: Deep River, CTWe really enjoyed our stay at this beautiful vacation rental. We were there in the COLD month of Feburary and we were very impressed by how comfortable our stay was. From the surround sound to the gas fireplace, this rental had everything to offer and more. The photos posted on the web don't do it justice, you really have to see it to believe it! No matter what time of the year you stay, this rental has everything you will need for a relaxing get away! March 21, 2005Reviewer: Gary and Kathy M. From: Brockton, Mass.
The Harris' home is everything a family in search of relaxation could ask for! It is comfortable, efficient, spacious and situated on a beautiful lot overlooking the lake. November 06, 2004Reviewer: David & Ann Marie Lees From: Westfield MA
Our week at the Harris home on Forest Lake was incredible. The atmosphere of the house itself was relaxing and so very comfortable. Nothing was missing. Sitting in front of the fire and listening as the Red Sox won the World Series was an added plus! October 15, 2004Reviewer: Pat and Lynette From: Los Angeles, CAWe had an incredibly wonderful and relaxing vacation at the Harris' lake home. Even though it was cool and/or rained for three days, it gave us time to enjoy the stock and variety of DVD's and books. Loved being right on the lake and especially the lake view! Coming from the city, it was wonderful to just sit in the peacefulness and truly comfortable home. We loved going out on the lake in the rowboat on our last day. It was also great to be able to go down to the main street library and check email. Having a crib was great for our infant (and nice that we didn't have to lug one from CA). For some reason, we also enjoyed cooking while there--I'm thinking it was because we had more time and the beautiful kitchen inspired us. Again, all the little extras such as coffee, detergent, sugar, free long distance and fishing bait, made our stay more comfortable and convenient. We really felt welcomed and cared for by the Harris'. You could tell that they weren't just trying to make money, but also really enjoy having others use their vacation home. I just wish we were closer so that we could rent their home more often. September 28, 2004Reviewer: Sam & Carol Bricker From: Smithsburg, MDWe enjoyed staying in your beautiful house. It was a very relaxing week; our first alone time in all too long. While it was too cool to go in the lake, we enjoyed simply sitting on the dock catching some rays. In the evenings, the gas fireplace made whatever we did--read, watch tapes/DVD's, or ...-- much cozier. You were right about FAT CHANCE ANTIQUES. It's not to be missed and the prices are almost too good to be true. The Pickle Festival was a "dilly" of a good time. We feel fortunate to have been here for it. It was an unexpected bonus. We highly recommend the BLUE BIRD RESTAURANT. Not only is it very close to the house, but the menu is extensive, the food and service excellant, and the prices very reasonable. We hope to have the opportunity to return at some future time. September 07, 2004Reviewer: Renee Masse From: Bellingham, Ma
9/3/2004 August 19, 2004Reviewer: Amy Rumano From: Catonsville, MDWe had a fantastic time at this cottage. We rented it having seen its listing from the interet and were therefore not 100% sure it would be what we expected -- but it exceeded our expectations! A quite place that truly made me really relax for the first time in a long time. The house came with some many things -- we didn't even get a chance to try out all the things it had to offer. Our young visitors really enjoyed the basement ping pong area and silly hats! I enjoyed just sitting on the doc reading a book while my 6 year old daughter swam and fished all day; I also enjoyed watching a few DVDs, with the fantastic surround sound! August 01, 2004Reviewer: Casey FamilyThis is a wonderful home with many amenities. We enjoyed the gourmet kitchen and the stereo system. The middle deck was the ultimate place to relax with piped in music from the outdoor speakers and the hammock chair! The children also enjoyed the musical instruments and playing chess on the enclosed porch. It is readily apparent when entering this home that the owners put much effort into making it a very comfortable vacation spot for all who visit. July 11, 2004Reviewer: Laurie and Ed Foley From: Lovettsville, VA
What a beautiful house and the lake is also pretty to see. It is so peaceful and relaxing for anyone who wants to get away from the city and noisey environment. It has everything that you can think of for entertainment. The Owners even added a new deck and provided lots of information and flyers for sightseeing and things that you can do. May 18, 2004Reviewer: bill whitcher From: east haven , ctWe had a great time. Enjoyed fishing at the lake. The house is beautiful and very relaxing. Can't wait to come again. March 25, 2004Reviewer: Keisha & Matthew Burdick From: New Haven, CT
If you're looking for a quiet, relaxed getaway, December 31, 2003Reviewer: Walt Legg From: Woodbridge, VA
We had a great time on the lake with our 4 kids! While there wasn't snow, we had the whole lake on which to skate. December 23, 2003Reviewer: Kristen Morais From: New Britain, CT
My husband, one year old and I spent our fall vacation at the Harris vacation home and it proved to be as relaxing and enjoyable as we had hoped. I was looking forward to the wood burning stove which we found clean, filled and ready to be lit as well as refridgerator and cabinets filled with the necessities. August 18, 2003Reviewer: kristine & John MacGibbon From: Cambridge, MA
We loved our week on Forest lake! I think July 28, 2003Reviewer: Terry & Don Gross From: Warwick, New York
Forest Lake is New Hampshire's best kept secret! Thank you Paul & Anne for sharing your piece of heaven with us! The house was beautiful...always something good to peruse and always a comfy chair or coach to curl up in. The property was great...whether biking on the trail, sipping coffee on the deck or enjoying the crystal clear lake. We especially enjoyed the dock and swim platform (the perfect spot for soaking up the sun), the incredible sunsets, and the fish that just kept on biting!!! July 05, 2003Reviewer: Leigh CarletonThis place was just what we were looking for. It was a quiet, friendly, spot yet convenient to wonderful restaurants and shopping. Besides the beautiful lake to enjoy, there was a lovely yard and a house full of things to do for every age and taste.
