Candy's Cabin came with several fringe benefits. It is an architectural wonder, even the interior wall are logs! The lake, a short walk, is beautiful, but we knew that already. Yes, there is swimmer's itch, but with reasonable precautions, not a problem. There is a convenience store a short walk away, with Detroit News and Free Press stands. A Wal-Mart is about half an hour away, 20 minutes if you know the way. Washer and Dryer are available. The cabin is very well equipped with TV and cable. An additional benefit: a very welcoming church, Markey Community Baptist Church is nearby.

First off, I would like to say that this cabin was just adorable! It has so much charm and personality! The neighbors in front of us were very delightful and friendly. Candy was very gracious in letting us check in earlier while she cleaned the cabin so we could get on the water sooner. She also left a wonderful personal touch in the cabin for all our needs. As far as the bat situation goes, we did see one bat and after a couple of sightings, I think we scared it away with our flashlights. Candy assured us that she was working on a solution, and we know from experience that they are tricky little critters that are hard to get rid of. We also understood that we were up north and it is just part of staying in a cabin. The bat was not a threat to us and didn't disrupt our sleep or our good time there. We were literally "one with nature" and we found it fun and exciting! The location of Candy's cabin is a perfect spot with beautiful sandy bottom shores and located very close to stores and the boat launch at state park which made it very nice too. She did provide a hoist for our boat, although it was not equipped to hold our deep V boat which was 23ft and 3900 lbs. It was really for a pontoon or boat with a flat bottom. We instead chose to moor our boat in front of the dock and we never had any problems with it there. We even kept it in all week overnight with no problems. We will be back next month and can't wait for another adventure at Candy's Cabin!!

In my 12 or so years of renting this is my first bad review. I try very hard to please every one and make their vacation enjoyable but I have also found that I just can't plese every one. For furture renters please contact me for any problems ( if I don't know, I can't take care of them). I live right there. Thank you Candy

Just returned from a stay at Candy's cabin. The cabin was well appointed but we were very disappointed in our stay. The cabin was freezing inside and when we plugged in the space heater the fuse would blow every time. Therefore, it was too cold in the bathroom to take a shower (mid Sept.) The one time my husband did brave it, there was no hot water in the shower. Worse yet, there was a bat in the cabin that became active at night. I told the owner the next day and not only did he not offer to do anything to attempt to remove the bat, he really seemed as though he could care less. Later, when Candy returned my deposit she did send a note apologizing and explaining there is nothing they could do, bats inside the cabin are a part of northern-michigan living. I don't think so, I told them where the bat was entering the cabin and I think it would be fairly easy to have someone come out and block the entry hole. I'm sure alot of people would have an issue with a bat flying around them at night. We won't be returning after a disappointing weekend.

My husband and I and 2 teenage daughters stayed at Candys Cabin for 5 nights from August 13 - August 20, 2011. We had never been to Michigan before and wanted our girls to experience the Michigan life in a safe place. Candy's cabin gave us that and more !

The cabin was spotless (never saw one bug) and Candy left us some thoughtful gifts upon our arrival. Candy really goes above and beyond for her renters. When we arrived our first day the cabin was opened for us and fire wood was already collected and waiting. She checked in a few times during the week to make sure we had everything needed to make our stay an enjoyable one. The pictures of the cabin and surroundings you see on the internet are only half of the beauty of this place.

The water here is warm and beautiful. Its like being in Punta Cana. We swam right off the dock, which is 5 seconds from the cabin and ventured off to 2 beaches. We visited the beach at the State Park (awesome) and in Traverse City (very busy). I would recommend that if you have small children just go to the State Park - its close, about a 5 minute drive and costs 8$ for the day.

Having teenage girls we also went shopping at the outlet about 20 minutes from the cabin. On the way to the cabin we stopped and did lots of shopping in Birch Run. Coming from Canada this was a nice break from the drive. We also went to a great Pizza/Bowling place called Freds in Roscommon. The pizza was amazing and Tuesdays are half off pizza nights ! There are also ample icecream places close by too with some unusual icecream we had never heard of in Canada.

We would love to return to Candys Cabin next year. The drive from Canada was worth it to expereince such beautiful beaches and water in Michigan. Candy and her husband, Gary are such wonderful people and really go the extra mile to ensure your stay is a memorable one.

See you next year Candy and Gary !!!

Every year my husband and I take our adult sons and their spouses on a camping trip. The Higgins Lake area is one of our favorites. The last few years we have opted for a cabin instead of the tents and sleeping bags. We have a rather large group (normally 12, but only 10 this trip). Finding accommodations for that size group is expensive and almost impossible. Although Candy's cabin sleeps 6, she allowed our group to rent her cabin. We all managed perfectly. There was more than enough room for all of us. Her rates were the most reasonable of all the cabins we looked at. Unfortunately with such a large group we were not all able to have an entire week vacation, so Candy was gracious enough to allow us to rent by the day. We enjoyed 4 days and 3 nights. The cabin has the exquisite charm of a rustic log cabin, with all the comforts of home. Candy and her husband go the extra mile to provide added touches that make your stay.....wonderful. I would highly recommend this cabin as your next vacation spot. Thanks Candy for a vacation that is truly memorable :).
Sincerely,
The Schultz Family

Camdy's cabin was great. Fishing was great. Weather could have been any better. Haven't been back to Higgins Lake since 1995. Allan McConnal, Anahiem, CA

Candy's Cabin was every bit of my sons dream come true! As an avid "outdoors man" my 8yr. old repeatedly told me, he
"always wanted to sleep in a real log cabin". So I looked up log cabins. Talk about being overwhelmed! The list was endless (and quite expensive I might add). After a sincere prayer I "randomly"clicked on C.Cabin website. Bingo! It was genuine, cozy and very affordable. So we called Candy, we booked and went on the spur of the moment. We also, happened to be the last visitors of the season. Which turned out to be the best timing for our family. It also turned out to be the best vacation we had. Words cannot express the beauty of the property. The cabin was clean, inviting, and filled with rustic charm. The thoughtful touches
throughout the cabin were delightful (I won't spoil the surprises for you!). The grounds were tidy and homey. The lake was crystal clear and shallow the length of the pier. This made for totally safe play for my kids and a super relaxing time for me!
Being late in the season, we were able to enjoy the fireplace and firepit. My kids loved bringing in the chopped wood and learned how to start a fire, they also loved roasting hotdogs and marshmallows in the outdoor fire pit. My daughter's favorite thing to do was to look for wildflowers to put at the table for meals.
Beside all of this, was the friendly and hospitable welcome we received all up and down the lakefront. We couldn't ask for more, expect for more time there...
To sum things up: Hands down, it was better than Florida!!
We voted this to be our official vacation spot, and we can't wait fo go back! Waiting in Chicago.....

my wife and I rented Candy & Gary's cabin for a week in July.
We had a wonderful time. The cabin was extremely clean & lovely inside. Their old fashioned southern hospitality is what made this extra special. The lake was huge, clean and wonderful. We look forward to returning someday soon.

The location of the cabin was convenient. All amenities were fit for a queen. Everything we needed for a fuss-free vacation was provided and enjoyed by all.

My daughter, sisters and a few nieces stayed at Candy's Cabin for a long weekend in August 2007. Candy has the cutest cabin ever!! Clean and very quaint!! A real log cabin!! With electricity!!! And a flush toilet!! We all loved it!! There were 9 of us altogether and we really had such wonderful time. Candy thought of everything, down to extra toothbrushes if we needed them (we didn't). The weather was not really that good, but we still had such a wonderful time. I will try to go back, either with the fam, or without. Thanks Candy, for everything. You are a great hostess.

What a wonderful time we had. Very clean and well loved cabin. No bugs! Clean kitchen and bathroom. Clean sheets. Clean everything! The owner's thought of everything. Kitchen had everything we needed - even a toaster oven and microwave.
Great view of the lake from all of the front windows. Nice to wake up to. Lake was chilly for us Southern Folks (Labor Day), but we still went swimming and had a great time! Bring pool shoes to wear in the water in case of zebra muscle shells.
Our short stay still brought back many fond memories of Summers on Higgins Lake ~ they don't make lakes like this in North Carolina!

Great place! Just as described. Comfortable beds, Cable TV and fireplace for rainy days. The weather was bad but we made the best of it. We'll rent again!

This was a most delightful stop on our Michigan vacation. Candy and her husband were most accomodating and great hosts. The cabin was very peaceful and we had a great time. I would love to go back some time and certainly give this little bit of Michigan a positive feedback.

We rented Candy's place in early August and had an excellent time. The cabin is extremely clean and includes everything you'll need. The lake view is wonderful and the water/dock is only a 30 second walk out the back door. The owners are super and the location is central to everything you'll need (boat rental, convenience store, gas station, state park, etc.). This is the nicest lake we've ever been on - crystal clear and sandy bottom - great for fishing, boating, and swimming. I would absolutely refer Candy's Cabin to friends and family. We're definitely coming back.

We stayed at this cabin for 7 days starting on July 15, 2006. It is very charming. Great location. We were able to utilize the boat lift all week which was heaven being that we had our nine month old baby with us and we needed the extra convience. You can see the sun's rays bouncing off the beautiful blue water from the front bedroom, living room, and porch. The owners and neighbors are very friendly. Everyone made us feel very welcome. We really enjoyed our stay. I would highly recommend this cabin.

This cabin is right behind our house and is one of the more charming places on the lake. It is very beautifully decorated and has a great access.
