Enjoy our renovated traditional Maine shore cottage located on 1 3/4 acres with 350' of sandy and rocky shore on a deep water bay. Cottage has 25' of continuous windows overlooking Pigeon Hill Bay, Bois Bubert Island, and Petit Manan lighthouse. Located on a two lane dead-end road, our cottage is 1/2 mile from Petit Manan National Wildlife Refuge, famous for birding. Eagles, ospreys, great blue herons, eiders, cormorants, terns, loons, seals, dolphins, shorebirds, and songbirds are routinely sighted, along with deer, fox, porcupines, spruce grouse, and occasional bear and moose. (Photos # 2 and #3 show eagles sitting/bathing in our creek about 75' in front of the cottage. The two eagles sitting together in photo #8 are on a tall spruce tree about 150 yards up the street and easily visible from our cottage.)
Our cottage is fully equipped for your stay with a double bed in the master bedroom on the first floor; two twin beds in a second floor bedroom; and a queen-size pull-out couch in the Great Room. Full bath with tub-shower combination and full kitchen, including full size refrigerator, with ice maker; full size range and oven; microwave; toaster oven; coffee maker; and dishes, pots and pans, and utensils. Guests must only provide their bed linens and towels. Pillows and a generous supply of cotton, wool, and electric blankets are provided for your comfort and convenience. 100 channel satellite TV provided for those rare occasions when guests can tear themselves away from the spectacular scenery and quiet tranquility of Petit Manan.
The Petit Manan Wildlife Refuge is a special treat for those interested in birding. The Refuge contains 43 offshore islands, including Petit Manan Island and 2/3 of Bois Bubert Island, and three coastal parcels totaling 7,000 acres. It is home to more than 325 species of birds -- more than any other of the 540 U.S. refuges -- and 310 of those species have been identified in the vicinity of Petit Manan Island, six miles from our cottage door. Commonly seen near the Island are common and Arctic terns, eiders, puffins, black guillemots, razorbills, murres, and laughing gulls. Both the puffins and roseate terns, which are considered "threatened" species, have small breeding colonies on Petit Manan Island.
For your enjoyment while visiting the Atlantic shore, our cottage has no telephone. (There is a telephone nearby for emergencies. Owners maintain a studio apartment above garage for their occasional personal use during the season.) Due to the continuing popularity of our Petit Manan cottage, we encourage early confirmed reservations to insure availability for your trip to the Maine coast.

Cabin Rentals Reviews for Downeast Maine Shore Cottage with Ocean and Lighthouse Views in Petit Manan PointApril 15, 2011Reviewer: Wes Beckett From: Brantford, Ontario, Canada
My Girlfriend, our dog Bubba, and myself enjoyed a tranquil week at this beautiful little cottage by the sea last summer. The weather was great, nice and cool at night with ocean breezes and calming tides that lulled us to sleep, During the day the weather was nice and warm and not too muggy to boot. If are looking for a relaxing little vacation with great views of the Atlantic Ocean and not a ton of tourists at every corner, this is the place to be! Local people are very friendly, the cottage host (Robert) is very knowledgeable about the area and its history. November 05, 2010Reviewer: Caro Cassels From: South CarolinaThanks so much to the Hauharts for sharing their lovely cottage at Petit Manan Point. The cottage is very comfortable and the setting is perfect for an authentic Maine vacation. The view across the sound greets you each morning as the sun rises and the harvest moon shining across the water soothed us to sleep each night. The location is perfect for seeing all of "down east." Acadia is an easy drive as well as points north such as Machias and Campobello. We had perfect Fall weather and were lucky to see much of the Maine foliage just days before it all fell to the ground. We highly recommend it! August 29, 2010Reviewer: Christina & Joe From: Baltimore, MarylandWe have been coming to the cottage for the last five years. We Iove its serenity and peacefulness; this is a very special place indeed! The views are outstanding; ocean water and lobster boats. It is close enough to Bar Harbor and Acadia for day trips. We take our bikes; go hiking, walking, and kayaking during our visits. Two kayaks are available for use. Wood is free for fires on the beach at night time with the stars being magnificent. Our kids also come along, and we still get to have some alone time. We cannot wait to go back again next year for the peace and beauty. We return home rested and refreshed, and missing this place that we love! July 18, 2010Reviewer: Frank & Moni From: Denver, CO
Our first stay rated a 5+. Idyllic location and so peaceful watching the Lobster boats chugging out the sound over morning coffee. We arranged to come back again. October 15, 2009Reviewer: gerhard mauerer From: munich, germany
My girlfriend and me spent 1,5 weeks there in august 09, and we can only highly recommed it. The cottage is great, and the owners Diane and Robert were very, very, very helpful whenever we had questions. July 01, 2007Reviewer: Randy Warner From: Pine Grove, PA
Being landlocked Pennsylvanians we can't begin to tell you how enjoyable our vacation was at the School House on Pigeon Hill Bay! Our cottage was very clean and comfortable. We completely relaxed whether it was sitting on the rocks on the water's edge or watching the eagle as he sat perched in a nearby tree scanning the ocean. June 26, 2005Reviewer: Michelle Lindquist From: Fort Collins, ColoradoOur Downeast getaway was simply SPECTACULAR! The cottage was clean, charming, and had all the comforts of home, plus some! Exploring the shoreline & watching the wildlife (eagles, osprey, porcupine, red fox, deer & various seabirds) became daily rituals. We love our Rocky Mountains, but look forward to returning to Maine, and the Old School House on Petite Manan....a little piece of Heaven! August 09, 2004Reviewer: Lisa Robbins From: North Brookfield, Mass.
This cottage felt more like a home away from home. It was not only beautiful but extremely comfortable. The owners, Dianne & Robert, take great pride in their cottage and it shows up in all the little details. July 30, 2004Owner-Supplied Testimonial
We just wanted to say "Thank you." We had a great vacation and really enjoyed ourselves. The cottage was sweet. It made us feel welcome. We got to see the eagle; no picture but we got it on the camcorder. Just wanted to say "Thanks" again. July 22, 2004Reviewer: Tammy Andrews From: NY StateThe cottage is incredible. It is spacious, clean, and the view is great! We could sit in the livingroom and watch the lobster boats and observe wildlife...we could also do so at the shore across the quiet road. It is close enough to Bar Harbor to make it a short day trip, but far enough away to avoid the summer traffic! We had a wonderful time here, and will gladly return at the first opportunity. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
