Enjoy our renovated traditional Maine shore cottage located on 1 3/4 acres with 350' of sandy and rocky shore on a deep water bay. Cottage has 25' of continuous windows overlooking Pigeon Hill Bay, Bois Bubert Island, and Petit Manan lighthouse. Located on a two lane dead-end road, our cottage is 1/2 mile from Petit Manan National Wildlife Refuge, famous for birding. Eagles, ospreys, great blue herons, eiders, cormorants, terns, loons, seals, dolphins, shorebirds, and songbirds are routinely sighted, along with deer, fox, porcupines, spruce grouse, and occasional bear and moose. (Photos # 2 and #3 show eagles sitting/bathing in our creek about 75' in front of the cottage. The two eagles sitting together in photo #8 are on a tall spruce tree about 150 yards up the street and easily visible from our cottage.)
Our cottage is fully equipped for your stay with a double bed in the master bedroom on the first floor; two twin beds in a second floor bedroom; and a queen-size pull-out couch in the Great Room. Full bath with tub-shower combination and full kitchen, including full size refrigerator, with ice maker; full size range and oven; microwave; toaster oven; coffee maker; and dishes, pots and pans, and utensils. Guests must only provide their bed linens and towels. Pillows and a generous supply of cotton, wool, and electric blankets are provided for your comfort and convenience. 100 channel satellite TV provided for those rare occasions when guests can tear themselves away from the spectacular scenery and quiet tranquility of Petit Manan.
The Petit Manan Wildlife Refuge is a special treat for those interested in birding. The Refuge contains 43 offshore islands, including Petit Manan Island and 2/3 of Bois Bubert Island, and three coastal parcels totaling 7,000 acres. It is home to more than 325 species of birds -- more than any other of the 540 U.S. refuges -- and 310 of those species have been identified in the vicinity of Petit Manan Island, six miles from our cottage door. Commonly seen near the Island are common and Arctic terns, eiders, puffins, black guillemots, razorbills, murres, and laughing gulls. Both the puffins and roseate terns, which are considered "threatened" species, have small breeding colonies on Petit Manan Island.
For your enjoyment while visiting the Atlantic shore, our cottage has no telephone. (There is a telephone nearby for emergencies. Owners maintain a studio apartment above garage for their occasional personal use during the season.) Due to the continuing popularity of our Petit Manan cottage, we encourage early confirmed reservations to insure availability for your trip to the Maine coast.
