This unique and secluded mountain cabin is located
on the historic Mosquito Gulch Trail. Just 15 miles
south of Breckenridge, it is the perfect spot for either
a secluded get-away or a ski vacation at a fraction of
the cost.

Centered on ten acres of pine and aspen, the Irish
Rose was designed to accommodate those who want
a true Colorado experience. With Mosquito Creek
flowing nearby, you will enjoy spectacular views of
Pennsylvania and London Mountains as you relax
with family and friends.

If summer hiking, biking or four-wheeling is your
desire, four of Colorado's 14,000 foot peaks are at
your doorstep, providing some of the best hiking and
driving trails in the world. Tackle the summits of
Mount Bross, Mount Democrat, Mount Cameron, and
Mount Lincoln... all in a single day!

Gold pan on the local creeks, explore "Buckskin Joe"
trail, and visit the ghost town of Park City. The
historic mining towns of Alma and Fairplay are also
nearby. Mountain bike to your heart's content or drive
the legendary 4x4 "Mosquito Pass" into Leadville.
Pick wildlowers and view wildlife--there's something
for everyone!

If winter activities are your goal, the beautiful village of
Breckenridge is just a short drive north where you
can enjoy premier Colorado skiing, dining, and
shopping. Keystone, Arapahoe Basin, and Copper
Mountain are also close. Or, stay near home and
cross-country ski to your heart's content. We have it
all!

The Irish Rose was built with families in mind. The
main level has a great room with a gas fireplace and
floor-to-ceiling windows showcasing the beautiful
mountains and trees. It is surrounded by a huge 32x8
foot wrap-around deck. A full kitchen and dining area
are also on this level to create an open, spacious
environment. Pets are NOT allowed, No Smoking.

There are two main level bedrooms, one with a queen
bed, and one with bunk beds geared for up to four
kids. The great room sofa also pulls out to a queen-
size bed. The master bedroom loft has a queen bed,
washer and dryer, along with a small private balcony.
There are full baths on both the main level and the
loft. (The cabin also has a lower level with a private
entrance which is occasionally used by the owners.
This unit is not rented. Please inquire whether
anyone will be there during your stay.)

Experience the Rocky Mountains in the comfort of
the "Irish Rose". At over 10,000ft elevation, it's as
close to heaven as you can get!

We visited the week of August 10, four adults and 4 kids ranging in age from 10-16. Surprisingly, the kids were NOT bored and enjoyed exploring the property, playing in the stream, etc. We all enjoyed jeepin over some of the passes, visiting Breckenridge, gold panning, fishing, etc. Great place to stay. Miss Kay was awesome.

We had a wonderful week at the Irish Rose at the beginning of July. The surroundings could not be more scenic and we enjoyed several beautiful hikes within a few miles of the house. The property is equipped with everything you could possible need and it worked well for the four adults and 3 small children in our group. Thanks for sharing your house. We will definitely be back in the future.

Our stay at the "Irish Rose" was nothing less than spectacular. The Cabin was well maintained and beautiful, and well equiped with anything you needed. The land that it is on was fun for exploring and hiking or just relaxing by the creek.
The area is centrally located for touring the Royal Gorge, Pikes Peak and Brekenridge, along with other scenic sites.
The people of Alma and Fairplay were friendly and respectful and helpful when looking for directions or information. Our Family would gladly stay at the "Irish Rose" again and again whenever possible.
Thank You for a wonderful place for a wonderful and relaxing vacation.

It was dark when we arrived at the Irish
Rose because we had driven straight
through from Texas, but we made our way
inside to find a personalized welcome
goodie bag sitting on the table for us
and home made blueberry bread in the
freezer. The next morning we woke up toa
massive mountain overtaking the huge
windows in the living room. We enjoyed
waking up to this sight each morning.
Always breathtaking no matter how many
times you see it.
I grew up in Alaska, but my adult
children had never seen mountains or
experienced that type of environment. I
wanted to give them that opportunity
which is why I chose the Irish Rose. It
ended up being the right decision. We
climbed Penn Mountain. We panned for
gold. We explored the woods around the
cabin. Two weeks later & my 2 yr old
granddaughter is still pointing to the
non-existent owie on her knee she got
"climbing the mountain." After we
acclimated to the altitude (only takes
about a day and a half) I enjoyed
running on the bike trail between Alma
and Fairplay.
On our first little walk I saw what
looked like moose droppings. It had been
over 25 years since I saw moose
droppings so I second guessed myself.
The two moose my husband saw drinking
from the creek the next day confirmed
it! While we were there, we also so a
red fox, more moose, several ground
squirrels, an eagle, two deer. My
husband feels pretty sure he caught a
fleeting glimpse of the bear down by the
creek.
During the week we spent at the Irish
Rose, we made a trip into Breckenridge
for a trail ride at Breckenridge Stables
(got a great Groupon deal). We drove to
Colo Springs to show the kids where my
husband was stationed 25 years ago and
our first apt. We took the kids to
Garden of the Gods and Pike’s Peak. We
drove to Denver for lunch with a friend.
We explored Alma and Fairplay. We bought
souvenirs at the Salt Licking Goat
Clothing Company in Fairplay. The kids
drove up to Kite Lake to kayak, explore,
and take pictures of snow and flowers.
This was a trip of a lifetime for my
family. We could have stayed anywhere
else in Color, but it wouldn't have been
the same perfect experience. Thank you
so much for sharing your cabin with us
and for the personal care and attention
given to us by you and by Ms. Kay. You
thought of every thing. There were more
than enough toys to entertain my
granddaughter. We realized there was a
pair of binoculars in a drawer in the
living room on the day we were leaving!
There were so many useful items all over
the cabin from ace bandages to fishing
poles. We will be back to Colo. Next
time we might fly or break up the drive,
but after experiencing the beauty of
Colo, my kids can’t wait to go back!

We had such a great stay at The Irish Rose! It was clean, comfortable and everything we could have asked for! Well except the snow that was still there! Who would have thought in May but that't the Rockies for you! We are excited for our next trip there so we can explore the area around the cabin. We opened some windows and could hear the river running. What a great relaxing sound!! We enjoyed Fairplay and drove to Lake George which was great fishing! Don't hesitate book this cabin!

We loved our long weekend at the Irish Rose! We have
stayed at many private rental properties, and this was
one of the best experiences we've had. From the
beginning, Rich, the owner, was in touch promptly
and couldn't have been more helpful and friendly in
giving us advice on our visit. Upon arrival, we found
the house warm and cozy and clearly well-cared for.
Furthermore, despite reading reviews about how
well-appointed the house is, we were still surprised at
all that was available in the house. We were two
families with five children (total), and we never ran
out of glasses, plates, silverware, and we had all that
we needed for a comfortable stay cooking meals (and
all of those items were well-organized in drawers and
cupboards, whereas we often see things thrown back
into place from visit to visit). There were toys for the
children to play with, board games, sleds, and much
more than we expected. We drove the 30 minutes to
Breckenridge for skiing and had a great time--and we
were happy to be staying in Alma after experiencing
the crowds there. We hope to return to the Irish Rose
again--perhaps to enjoy the acreage during the
summer--and would recommend it to anyone.

Thank you so much for the use of your house. Our family enjoyed a Christmas to remember. It was fabulous!!! The children got to sled and build a snowman. It was a blast. Everything we needed was there. It was a great family time and one we will never forget. Thanks so much! Reggie and Sharon

This cabin "The Irish rose" has everything! My husband & I fly for a major airline we have traveled the world & this is our favorite vacation! It was very relaxing, peaceful & brings you back to family! There is definately something for everyone to enjoy. The Platte River is great for fly fishing. The town of Alma & Fairplay are about 8 minutes away however you are secluded with the beautiful mountains all around. We cooked dinner every night & just said "do you believe this view"! Thank you for sharing your Irish Rose.......we will be back!
September 5, 2012 Rob Morales Austin, Texas
We had a very nice stay at the Irish Rose. We had 3 adults and 3 young children in our party, and the property accomodated us all very omfortably.

We really enjoyed the location as we were able to make day trips to Breckenridge and Buena Vista and had easy access to Fairplay and Alma.

The near by access to fishing on the Platte was a big plus as well. It's within a 20-45 minute drive to Tomahawk SWA, Badger Basin SWA, the Dream Stream, and 11 mile Canyon to name a few of the better know fishing spots.

We will cherish the memories of our time together at the Irish Rose!

Thank you Rich and Angela for a great week!!! We really enjoyed our time at the Irish Rose. It was very relaxing and it provided everything we needed. It was so incredible to see all the different animals. Our first night, we got to see the black bear. During the week, we got to see the moose, the deer, a red fox, and even a friendly squirrel, which visited frequently on the deck. We had a ball exploring the old mines on the property and in the surrounding area. We brought along our 71' Ford Bronco to explore the many trails. There is alot to do and see, even our 4-year old had a ball. We definitely will be back to stay again.

Thanks again, we loved it!!

Like so many other comments, we were really impressed by how well stocked the Irish Rose is. We especially enjoyed that great grill!

For our first trip to CO we feel like we got very lucky with our choice. The views from the deck are surreal.

If you choose to stay at the Irish Rose (and you should!) take the time to explore the property. It's massive and has really neat old mines, a beautiful stream with log bridge and more fantastic views.

We really hope to make a trip back later this year to enjoy some winter activities!

Thanks Rich and Angela for sharing your awesome home with us!
June 8, 2012 Steve & Laura Vidor, TX.
We had a great time at the Irish Rose. The house was unbelievable. We needed for nothing. The views were unforgettable. We saw deer, moose a fox. The people around there are just great. Very helpful in telling you places to fish. We ran into some local kids and asked them about where the Orphan boy mine was we were looking for and they informed us that someone had burned it down, but we saw London mine, Hock Hocking mine (it's mill is behind the cabin), made it up to Kite Lake , Windy Ridge and saw the Bristlepine's. We made it to Breckenridge and also toured South Park City. If your looking, while your there for so Bar-B-Q, Mason's High Country Bar-B-Q in Fairplay is so good. I even got them to make me some of their pulled chicken and brought it home. All and all it's a trip that we would love to take again in the future. Thanks Rich and Angela for this great vacation.
June 1, 2012 Erin Denver, CO
The Irish Rose is a fantastic cabin in a great
location. We stayed over Memorial Day weekend
- the Aspen were blooming, we saw coyotes and
a moose on the property, made it up to Kite Lake
and Windy Ridge (both are a MUST if you're in
the area), and even made it to Alma's Only Bar for
a high elevation beverage. The cabin is fully
stocked and completely comfortable. The porch is
fantastic, the view is spectacular. I would
recommend this place to anyone and I certainly
hope to return sometime soon. If you stay here
make sure to stop at the tamale place in the
bowling alley in Fairplay - it sounds strange but
they serve the best tamales you've ever had -
even featured on Food Network!

The cabin is in an amazing location up in the mountains. It was nice not having to be near the major tourist attractions that are common in many mountain towns. If you want to truly experience Colorado, this cabin is the place to stay. Everything you need to spend a week up in the mountains is in the cabin. From cooking utensils to extra blankets, it was all there.
March 14, 2012 Ms Lupita Los Angeles, CA
Beautiful cabin up in the woods, secluded from the world, yet close to everything. It was perfectly romantic; it was heaven; we were in absolute happiness heaven. We disconnected from the world for the weekend; there was beautiful snow, freezing nights, a snowmobiling afternoon, a little shopping, and romantic dinners. And as we tried to think back to all our getaways, we concluded that this one was probably the best one ever. Thank you!

Driving home after a wonderful week long stay at
the Irish Rose. With hotel-like amentities and
accommodations beyond our expectations we
can't wait to tell our friends and family. Was not
sure our kids would survive without WiFi but were
delighted with the great conversations. With cell
service just a short drive away we truly had the
best of both worlds.
November 27, 2011 Sarah Louisville, Colorado
We had a lovely Thanksgiving at the Irish Rose.
Snow on the ground, sun in the sky, and peace all
around. I think what we liked best was to be able
to walk out the door to a trail through the woods
and up the hill, with no need to get into the car. It
was a bit late for the bears, but we saw a
porcupine waddling along, quite near the house.
Probably the nicest mix of remote and yet near
local attractions (we skied twice at Breck) that we
have experienced with VRBO.
September 29, 2011 P Harris Colorado Springs, CO
I stayed at the Irish Rose from 23-27 Sep 2011. I was looking for some peace, quiet and tranquility - and I definitely found it here. The cabin was well equipped (the best of any vaction rental I've ever stayed at), clean and comfortable. The setting was what could take your breath away - not to mention the autumn colors at their peak! I also was able to see one of the "local" black bears and the moose - which was truly a highlight. The property proved to be a great home base for exploring all through the area - Alma, Fairplay, Como and Breckenridge. I left a little detailed journal of my explorations and experiences in the cabin guestbook in case anyone needs any more ideas for what to do (although there are plenty of informational packets/books available in the cabin). I cannot express how much I enjoyed staying here and truly appreciate the assistance from Rich during the planning and reservation of the home. All in all, it was a great get-away weekend in the mountains! Thanks Rich and Angela!
September 6, 2011 Alex and Roberta
We had a great time this weekend! Thank you Rich for your hospitality and flexibility. You have a beautiful property and we can see why so many people enjoy their stay. The Irish Rose offers everything as advertised. The creek has good size brown trout for fly fishers. The property is spacious and in a remote location. The Irish Rose is close enough to Breck and Alma to make a quick trip if necessary.
August 28, 2011 Adrian Fargo, ND
Our family spent three nights at the Irish Rose, and it was wonderful. The property is quiet and secluded, with plenty of places to explore. Fairplay is a quick drive away, and had everything we needed. It was great falling asleep to the sound of the creek behind the house and looking at the stars through the skylight. This really is a great place to get away and enjoy God’s creation!
August 23, 2011 Tom and Lucy and Don and Pat Kuku Merriam, Ks
The house was perfect. Everything and more was provided. Very secluded. Caught fish in the stream behind the house. Made several trips which included Alma, Fairplay, Cosmo, and Leadville. We are bringing our family up next year.
August 11, 2011 The Hall and Del Carmen Families St. Louis, MO
Our two families just returned from five fabulous nights at the Irish Rose. The setting is gorgeous and the owners couldn't be more helpful. Everything we could have possibly needed was provided in the cabin and the great outdoors provided endless hours of entertainment for the kids. We highly recommend the Irish Rose!
August 4, 2011 Andy and Marty St Joseph MO
Staying at the Irish Rose was a fantastic experience! I
was impressed with how well equipped it was. I really
liked all of the brochures, hiking maps and books you
have available for exploring the area. Just a very nice
place to take your family for a getaway. Highly
recommended!

Perfect location for our small family summer reunion. Lots of great hiking and wildlife (we even saw a family of moose). Loved the goat farm down the road. Quiet and roomy. Lots of perks (great BBQ). Best rental we ever had. We shall return.
July 15, 2011 Anonymous Lufkin, Texas
This was our second July stay and we enjoyed it just as much the second time around. We mainly stayed in the immediate area visiting historic sites this time. We did go to Breckenridge for a day to do some shopping. There was more snow this time which kept the pass closed. Also tried to get to Kite Lake but the road was closed due to snow. Hard to believe you can leave Texas at 100+F and have snow on the ground here. We saw the moose for the first time right outside the house. Thanks for opening up your house for our Colorado getaway. Hope to be back soon.

The Irish Rose was just what our family needed to escape the Texas drought! Being able to sleep with the windows open and no AC was a change for us! (I loved seeing the stars thru the skylight above the bed in the loft)

We enjoyed all the movies and games provided at the cabin. We did quite a bit of cooking during our stay and were very pleased with all seasonings, condiments, etc that were provided! We especially enjoyed the birds and filled one of the hummingbird feeders and put it on the deck where we could watch them come and go. We had a great time, although the creek was too high for our kids to pan for gold. Our rafting trip was canceled too, due to high water, but better safe than sorry! Thanks for providing such a comfortable home for visitors.
July 5, 2011 Ted & Jayne San Antonio, TX
We stayed in the cabin in the middle of June. The summer is a great time to be in the mountains in Colorado. We loved the cabin and all the great stuff you can do outdoors. We just walked out the door in the morning to all kinds of fun. Easy drive to lots of neat towns. The owners were great. You can't expect more. I would love to stay here again.
June 9, 2011 The Burns Family HOTlanta, GA
We stayed the first week of June 2011. It was a phenomenal visit and the cabin was a perfect home base for hiking, camping, and sightseeing. We were SO pleased with this wonderful cabin and the kindness of the owners! The stay, the cabin, the property, and the weather exceeded our expectations exponentially and we are already planning to return to the Irish Rose!
March 28, 2011 Kristi Benson Des Moines, IA
We stayed during spring break in March for 4 nights & loved your cabin with great views & lots of privacy. Everything we needed was provided & we loved this location. Our 3 grandchildren, ages 5, 8 & 9, had their first skiing experience & are begging to go back for more. Thanks for helping to make wonderful memories.
February 28, 2011 Chuck Omaha, NE
Our family stayed at the Irish Rose over Presidents day weekend. WE all loved our stay. The boys loved the mountains, we loved playing games around the fire in the evening, cooking big meals at night, sleeping in when it was completely quiet, having a big mountain breakfast, and skiing and shopping all day. What a wonderful time for our family to spend together, one with many pictures that we will remember forever. Thanks again
February 9, 2011 Sam Strong Denver, CO
We just came back from a lovely weekend at the cabin. A Stunning view greeted us each morning. The beautiful surroundings made for a perfect afternoon of snowshoeing. My 10 year old was fascinated by the old mine we found. We could tell the back yard is a perfect place to spend a summer evening as well. Close to Breckenridge for the snow sculpture contest. We had everything we needed for terrific dinners and game night by the fire. Thanks for sharing your home! We would love to do it again.

Rich and Angela thank you so much for the use of your home for our family vacation. The cabin has everything you could possibly want, along with beautiful scenery. The boys loved the sleds and you even supplied our own sledding hill. We went snowmobiling one day and that was great fun until we took a turn a little to fast and the snowmobile went one way, and my husband and I went the other. We will definitly be back!

Thanks again!

Your place is great! We were very pleased and very comfortable. When we arrived; the Breckenridge area had just received an unusually large snow fall we were told. The kids played in the snow at the house the first day. The snow was about 1-2 ft. deep. The view just from the balcony is like a living post card. Just breath-taking. So glad you told us to get a 4-wheel drive vehicle. Driving in the snow was a little unsettling for us. And the ice and snow on the winding road up the mountain from and to Breckenridge was as amazing to see as well as to drive. We did have a good time in Breckenridge. We took ski lessons and enjoyed the pretty town. Had just a little altitude adjustment. At night, we stopped in the local store and then went to the house and had cozy dinners a few times. One day we drove to Royal Gourge about 2 hrs. away and took the train ride. GPS's are great!! Found some good places to go sledding for free thanks to the locals.
January 5, 2011 Stephanie Conroe, TX
We had a fabulous time at the Irish Rose last week. It was not far from civilization yet while there you felt secluded from all the craziness. We skied one day in Breckenridge (30 minute drive in the winter) and one day in Keystone (1 hour drive in the winter). The house had everything we needed including games for the night we were snowed in. If I had one negative to the location it was that we were worried about the roads being safe to drive on a couple of days. But we are from Texas and don't know how to drive in the snow and ice. It didn't hinder the trip at all...we still did everything planned but just drove very carefully.

Again, the place is wonderful! The views are awesome! We called it our Winter Wonderland!
September 7, 2010 Anonymous Colorado Springs
This place is amazing! It is quiet and feels secluded without being too far from basic services and a wealth of outdoor activities. We loved the outdoor fire pit next to the mountain stream. Inside the cabin, every detail is taken care of, right down to CDs with music mixes labeled by genre. We fully intend on returning soon!
July 31, 2010 Vehslage Family Dallas, Texas
We really enjoyed our stay. Awesome views of mountain from house. Beautiful creek running close to house. We definately hope to stay here again.
July 22, 2010 Gary and Keri Moser Columbus, OH
Rich and Angela, We had an incredible time at the cabin this summer! The view looking out the great room at the mountains was absolutely magnificent to wake up to each morning. Hiking on the property was exhilarating. The kids really enjoyed looking for gold at the abandoned mines. We couldn't have asked for a better location, private and secluded yet only a short drive from Breckenridge. We were impressed with the cabin features and amenities, wanting for nothing, we felt immediately at home, thank you for keeping it very well maintained. We typically rent a cabin on vacation each year, and this has been by far our favorite! Really sad to leave, all of us look forward to visiting again.
Dreaming of our next Colorado adventure!

Dear Rich, Angela, Kay & family,
Thank you for sharing your beautiful mountain home with us! We enjoyed every minute of our time in Colorado! The house was furnished so nicely and we wanted for nothing.
FYI to any future renters, we did lose our camera right before departing for home. If anyone finds a Sony Cybershot, we would be grateful for its return!

Thank you Rich, Angela and Kay for a special week of hospitality in Colorado. My family feels refreshed and blessed to have experienced the high country, from the exceptional base of operations known as the Irish Rose. After solid days of chasing adventure, the cabin you provided us was a welcome sanctuary. Our hats off to you and to your vision in establishing the home in a picturesque setting, beautifully finished, appointed beyond expectation and warmly decorated. It simply was a delight to make it home for a week. Thanks again - Park, Donna, Melody and Rob Allwine, Tulsa, OK.

We had a great weekend at the Irish Rose. Our guests from Texas enjoyed experiencing snow in the second week of June!
July 14, 2010 Diane
We thoroughly enjoyed our time at the Irish Rose! What a wonderful place to escape to! The view was incredible! The cabin had everything we needed and was so comfortable and warm. It was great having lots of movies to choose from, walking sticks and whistles! We did some hiking and the scenery was beautiful! Close enough to Breckenridge to go for dinners, yet far enough away to really get away from it all! Would love to experience the Irish Rose in every season of the year! Gorgeous!!!
June 5, 2010 Michael & Lisa Hirt Chandler, TX
Had a wonderful time at the Irish Rose. When they say "you don't need to bring anything - they have everything", this is not an understatement - just bring your food & clothes. Had a problem with the oven/stove not working the first morning: had the bacon in the pan, turned the burner on, and no heat!! But the owners were quick to provide special accommodations that worked out great! We saw lots of birds and squirrels on the property, caught a fox getting into the secured trash can, and saw moose, elk, & deer in the nearby area. Sluiced & panned for gold in the creek (will have to let you know if we found any). Overall had a wonderful, relaxing vacation. Thank you for allowing us to stay at your home - look forward to coming back soon!!! Thanks so much Rich, Angela & Kay!!!

Homeowner Response: So sorry about the oven! Hopefully a free night makes up for it. Our guests always come first and whenever something unexpected like that happens, we try to make it right. Thank you for the nice comments!
February 22, 2010 Wesley Fairhope, AL
My wife and three children really enjoyed our stay at the Irish Rose. Everything we needed was there from cooking in the kitchen, grilling out, board games, sleds and plenty of snow. We enjoyed the the setting and the incredible views. Spent our time going back and forth to the "sledding hill" and even looking for "gold" in the rocks at the top of the hill. We plan on trying to come back to see how the summers are!

My husband and I had a fantastic stay at the Irish
Rose in February 2010. The home's location is
unbeatable: close enough to drive from Denver in
1.5 hours and when you're on the property you feel
like the only person in the world. The scenic views
of the mountains are breathtaking. We enjoyed
using the binoculars to watch for wildlife and the
large wraparound deck was the perfect place to
soak up the scene. The house was stocked
thoughtfully with every amenity we needed and we
especially enjoyed bringing the sleds out to the
sledding hill one afternoon. The views from the top
of the sledding hill are amazing. Coming from a
city condo in downtown Chicago, we found just the
peace and quiet we desired for our vacation. With
our snowshoes, we explored the grounds in
addition to hiking up Bald Hill right from the
property. We also climbed nearby fourteener Mt.
Bross and Pennsylvania Mountain during our stay.
We really enjoyed the amazing scenery and the
solitude on the mountains. One evening, we went
into Breckenridge for dinner, but enjoyed making
our dinner in the well-equipped kitchen of the Irish
Rose the other 4 nights of our stay. In the
evenings, we had fun playing several of the many
board games at the house. In all, it was a
wonderful and memorable vacation and the Irish
Rose was the perfect home base. We would highly
recommend this house to anyone traveling to
Colorado. Thanks so much to Rich and Angela for
giving us the chance to enjoy your unique property.
We truly loved it.

We so enjoyed our stay at your beautiful mountain home. We brought our neice and her husband for a special getaway and it totally exceeded our expectations. Thank for openting your spectacular mountain home to us and we definitely will return!!

Our family had a wonderful time! We ski'd in Breckenridge and Keystone. We sledded in the "backyard", we hiked up the river, grilled, played games, watched movies, and watched the birds and squirells. We searched for the mines but could not find them or any large game. The house has everything, movies, sleds, games, music, cooking utensils, and walking sticks. It also has info on all the local to do's. We had a wonderful, memorable stay and highly recommend the Irish Rose to anyone looking for an incredible place to stay.
December 28, 2009 Andrea Alexandria, Louisiana
We had a great time! Thanks for sharing your cabin.

We arrived on Sunday and immediately donned snow clothes and headed up the hill to sled...that was a blast! We also skiied in Breckenridge, went on a sleigh ride, shopped on Main Street and the guys went snowmobiling. On Christmas Eve we hunkered down and played games and watched movies. The snow was beautiful. We have not experienced snow like that before. My daughter had a great time making snow angels! Oh, the wonder of a child! We also built a snowman with the kits you left us. We may have to visit in the summer sometime. It looks like it would be just as beautiful as the winter.

Thanks for your kind hospitality.

The Montano Family stayed at the Irish Rose for a weekend in mid-September and had a wonderful time. The trip was a gift to the older Montanos for their 50th wedding anniversary. We all love the mountains and couldn't have been more pleased with the cabin and surroundings. We hiked, bicycled, fished (Dad caught fish in the nearby stream) and the girls even claimed to have seen a bear from afar! We also attended Mass in Fairplay and enjoyed going through the frontier town of South Park. Any pot or dish we needed was available in the cabin, as well as reading materials and games! It snowed the morning we left - what a treat! Thanks for the use of your beautiful home. Mary & Alex Montano & Family
October 1, 2009 Daniel Montano Denver Colorado
The Montano family rented the Irish Rose for our
parents 50th Anniversary celebration and it was a
perfect setting. The Aspen tree were in full color
and the weather was perfect. We really enjoyed
visiting the historic Park City museum with it
authentic buildings in Fairplay. Amazing we did not
know about this special gem, and we live in
Colorado! The last day was also special...the family
woke to the first snow of autumn. Gorgeous!

As we like to cook, we especially were impressed
with all the cooking items needed for gourmet
meals...including some spices we forgot to bring
along. Upon our arrival we found that the grill was
low on propane, but with one phone call request, a
new tank was delivered within 15 minutes. We
don't know where your nearby hobits live!

It shows you care about your guests and I'd
recommend the Irish Rose to anyone.

How GREAT it was to stay at the Irish Rose!! We were escaping from the Texas heat and were very succesful!! Temperatures were awesome for fishing, hiking, and also drinking coffee in the early morning watching the sun hit the mountains. Great fishing just a few minutes away in Fairplay and also on the property! Last day we took a quick trip into Breckenridge which is only a few minutes away. Great Location and we had a very very restful stay. Our only regret was not meeting Mr. Bear!!
August 12, 2009 Walt Grady Fort Collins, CO
The Irish Rose makes a great first impression; it’s clean, well maintained, comfortable and has fantastic views. Access to five “14ers” in the Mosquito Range made the Irish Rose a wonderful base camp for hiking. An unexpected surprise was seeing moose and visiting the extensive beaver ponds up the valley. Very memorable!
July 28, 2009 Clare Stein Dallas, TX
The house and property are beautiful, remote and pristine-- the perfect home away from home. We spent several days without leaving the Irish Rose property- there is plenty to do. And when we wanted a change, we didn't have to go far. We hiked in Buena Vista and Breckenridge, fished in Fairplay and Lake Dillon, and enjoyed a music festival in nearby Alma. I highly recommend the Irish Rose!!
July 22, 2009 The Dannas Lufkin, Texas
We had a great time while at the Irish Rose. Explored alot in the area. The bear on the porch the first morning was really interesting. Great scenery and accomadations. There was 4 adults and my two girls. We were never bored for things to do and see. Hope to be able to make it back. Thanks for the opportunity to use your place.
July 14, 2009 Randy Toth buffalo, NY
June 30th-July 7th Outstanding! Fishing was great on little Mosquito Creek, Caught and released several little Brook and Brown Trout. The house could not have been set up better for us either. Everything was as advertised. We also ziplined in Wolcott, horseback riding near Fairplay and whitewater rafting on the Arkansas River, it doesn't get any better than that!Great vacation, thank you so much.
July 13, 2009 Dana Knight Boulder, CO
The Irish Rose is a very nice property in an great setting; beautiful views, fishing, hiking, exploring, lots of nature and Breckenridge only 30 mins away. We just finished our family vacation there with 4 adults and 4 kids and all had a great time!
June 14, 2009 Betty Miller Stillwater Ok
I am so glad that our daughter found the Irish Rose. It was a wonderful place to have a family vacation. My husband, daughter, son-in-law, children 8,6,3 and our son all had a great time in your lovely cabin. It had everything you could want and then some. Thank you for thinking of all those little extras that made it the perfect place to stay. (the maps, brochures, books, toys, all the kitchen supplies and lovely comfortable furnishings) We hiked up Mosquito Pass, collected rocks at the old mine, fished (Lee caught a brook trout near the cabin). We enjoyed Alma and the Al-Mart. I even saw a man that I knew from Stillwater in the Al-Mart. We ate at the South Park Saloon in Alma and it was excellent. We had a short trip to Fairplay and toured the old mining town. The kids loved it! We also went to Breckenridge and there are no crowds there in June! If we come back to Colorado, we will stay at the Irish Rose again. Thank you for having such a lovely place.
March 16, 2009 Shawn Green Bay/WI
Your cabin offers a unique opportunity to enjoy a true colorado experience. We were able able to go skiing at several different resorts, hiked up mt. bross, snowshoed out the back door; and came home to beautiful views. Would love to come back in the summer and check out the trout streams!
February 23, 2009 Jamie London, England
The Irish rose is a wonderful Colaroado getaway. It's very comfortable and homely and a real bargain compared to other properties. You won't regret staying here.
February 14, 2009 Andrew
Wow! What a set up! Ten acres of Rocky Mountain seclusion with unbelievablel views and your own river! Tons of trails to explore. It was the best mountain house we have stayed in. No fighting the crowds like Breckenridge, but it was an easy drive to town. We looked at other houses for the same price, but nothing had the unique surroundings of the Irish Rose! This is the place to stay. Thanks!
January 7, 2009 Hal Wallace Oklahoma City, OK
We enjoyed the separate isolation from Breckenridge's bumper-to-bumper traffic while staying at the Irish Rose home. This was our first stay away from the action of a ski resort and we happily liked it. If you fly into Denver, most families rent a car. Or, they drive, as we did, from OKC. The distance is real but if you enjoy peace and quiet, the Irish Rose is an excellent find! You'll find the Irish Rose a true home. We ate in breakfasts and most evenings--3 high schoolers, 2 college, 3 parents. Snow was no problem for my 2 wheel drive Yukon as it was plowed to the home twice while we were there.

We had a really nice time at the Irish Rose. It snowed the whole weekend. We snow shoed and enjoyed the beautiful views. The house is very nice and clean with many amenities. We had a great time!
October 8, 2008 Mark Morris Russell, KS
We definitely enjoyed our time at the Irish Rose. The cabin was clean, comfortable and everything required was provided. The location was perfect. With easy access to 4x4 trails, a running stream and old mines to explore we had plenty of activities to keep us busy. Overall a great experience at a great place.
August 31, 2008 Jane Boisvert Horseshoe Bay, TX
Our four weeks at the Irish Rose was a little taste of heaven. We loved the cabin as well as the surrounding acreage. Our children and grandchildren loved exploring the area and fishing in the creek. We found it to be a wonderful, relaxing place with every amenity that we needed to feel at home. The wildlife was an added bonus!!!
July 24, 2008 Anonymous
The Irish Rose was a terrific cabin with practically all of the amenities that you could wish for in the mountains. It was comfortable and completely private. The down side was that it was far from Breckenridge, a half hour away. We also would have liked to see more wild life.

Homeowner Response: Glad you had a good experience! To get the privacy, you have to be away from Breckenridge. We will talk to the wildlife and see if they will make themselves more available!
July 14, 2008 Bob Wallace
What a great place to spend one week in the mountains. The kids had their bunk-bed room and I had peace and quiet in the master bedroom upstairs. Talk about a home away from home. After hiking from Leadville to your cabin over Mosquito Pass, with snow and hail, it was a welcome sight. Thanks again

We truly enjoyed our stay!
the viewas were breathtaking. You truly are away from it all at the Irish Rose. It is nice to find somewhere that you can hear yourself think. And the stars! Oh my goodness thousands....millions...we felt like we were on top of the world!

the views were breathtaking
June 28, 2008 Patrick Kneese Denver, CO
The Irish Rose is the pefect getaway. As someone who lives in Colorado, I can tell you that the true privacy and tranquility that surrounds you is almost impossible to come by anywhere else in the immediate Denver area...I think I saw two cars go by in three days yet you are still close to "civilization" if you need anything. Great hiking, driving trails, and much more is at your doorstep but just sitting on the grand deck and taking it all in is even better. I will return. Thank you Rich and Angela!
June 9, 2008 Jim Kovach
The Irish Rose exceeded our expectations. The view off the back porch is tremendous. The remote location of the Irish Rose is ideal for a retreat from the everyday world.

February 2, 2008 Chuck Schaber Atlanta, GA
We had a wonderful time at the Irish Rose... We went sking at Breckinridge for four days, the house was great and so were the slopes. It beat staying at a ski in ski out place by slopes we normally stay in. The family and I really enjoyed the place.
Sincerely,
Chuck

We had an excellent time at the Irish Rose! The weather was awesome and we enjoyed hiking to the old mines and driving up the road to the Mosquito Pass. The facilities are truly top-notch and the cabin itself was in prime condition. The scenery was spectacular, particularly seeing the stars at night. We highly recommend a stay and we will be sure to go back again!
January 18, 2008 Michael Watts Odessa, Tx
We had one of the best times at Irish Rose. We stayed over the New Year and went skiing. We had plenty of snow and the cabin was great!!! Beautiful to wake up each morning and see the snow covered mountains right out the front window and watch the shooting stars at night through the beautiful front window!!! Everything at the cabin was easy to work with, ie.. the fireplace, furnace, water, appliances. The drive into Breckenridge was beautiful with all the new snow. We really enjoyed our stay and hope to stay again!!!
January 18, 2008 Jerry and Renell Forrester
What a wonderful place to spend Christmas in 2007. We woke up to a white Christmas after 4 days of skiing. It was beautiful. Thank you so much for letting us spend our holiday in such a peaceful, ideal place. The cabin was perfect for our family.
July 22, 2007 Scott and Sandy Blue Springs, MO
We had a wonderful time at your cabin. It has everything, and more, that you could want. We enjoyed star-gazing on the spacious deck, had a hotdog/marshmallow roast, and panned for gold -all on site. We even had several interactions with the wildlife. We had a friendly fox that came up to the yard several evenings and one night we were surprised by a small black bear, but he promptly high-tailed it when we opened the door. We saw deer grazing and several marmots. If this place was for sale we would love to buy it. Great location. Great amenities. AND Great fun!!
July 19, 2007 Rick & Connie Ball Russia, OH
We enjoyed our stay at the Irish Rose. We had everything we needed and the view was spectacular. It was a great family vacation which included hiking, whitewater rafting, visiting a gold mine and attempting to make it thru Mosquito Pass - only the snow stopped us. The kids were disappointed that they didn't see a bear - ok by me though! We did see deer, a fox and a wolf. We would recommend this cabin to anyone, very clean and family oriented.
July 17, 2007 Dan Burley Tucson, AZ
One of our best vacations. We drove from Tucson to bring our ATV’s and explore the Rockies. Rode almost to the top of Mosquito Pass, still closed by snow in the first week of July. From the cabin we rode to the top of Mt. Bross, 14172 ft. The Highest in the Continental US is 14450. People were still skiing and snowboarding. I wish I could have tried. The wives loved shopping in Breckinridge, about a 45 minute drive. An hour and half south east is the Royal Gorge, this was one of our day trips. They had a nice Winery there also. There was so many white water rafting outfits you will always be able to find an opening. The historic mines all over the place were great to see and explore the ruins. You can’t actually go in any but that’s probably a good thing.

The Cabin was great, very clean, relaxing, secluded, and everything we brought that we didn’t think would be there, was there.

The only problem with the whole experience is now my Wife wants me to find another job and move to Colorado.
June 26, 2007 Patricia Minnesota
We stayed at Irish Rose for three days and wish it could have been longer. We had ages 15, 27, 40/50 somethings and we all found it wonderful. The cabin is remote and relaxing and had so many thoughtful amenities, such as sun screen, walking sticks, bug spray, condiments, games, puzzles, etc. The cabin was extremely clean! We especially appreciated the "How to" information book provided by the owners. We all had fun panning for gold and just basking in the beautiful surroundings. One exciting bonus we experienced was seeing four moose grazing by the cabin one evening. I would recommend this cabin and hope to visit again.

We had a wonderful time staying at the Irish Rose. We have stayed as several places in the Colorado mountains, and this was by far our favorite. The cabin is beautiful and in an incredible setting! They have thought of everything for their guests. With two small children it was great to be at a place that is truly family-friendly. Jacob (our 3 year old) was so excited to see Elmo, mega blocks and lots of books to look at in "his" room, and it was so nice to be somewhere that had outlet safety plugs and a stair gate to keep Megan (1 year old) out of trouble! We hiked, mountain biked, and did some of the "tourist" stuff in town. We also enjoyed roasting marshmallows by the campfire and watching the sunset over the mountains. I highly recommend the Irish Rose to anyone looking for a wonderful mountain get-away!
May 9, 2007 Jon and Tonya Faribault MN
We stayed at the Irish Rose April 28th to May 2nd. The house had all the comforts of home. The property was great to explore. There was still some snow, so we were somewhat limited. The Irish rose is located in a place that you have easy access to a lot of different things to do. We will definitely be back.
April 8, 2007 Kathy Moore
My husband and I, and another couple, took our daughters and two of their friendsto Breckenridge skiing over spring break. We spent four days at the Irish Rose. It was REALLY nice to get away from the crowds of Breckenridge each evening. Not only did we enjoy the cabin with all of its amenities (it was lovely!) but we also enjoyed the surrounding countryside - short hikes, the scenery, wildlife. We hope to go back in the summertime.

My family and I recently stayed a week at the Irish Rose. It was as beautiful as the picture on the web suggests. The cabin was well appointed and equiped with items that I would have never thought about. We would have gladly used the sleds provided, however, we ran out of snow. And my children enjoyed playing with the snowman kit. Unfortunatly I became ill during our stay, but the view from our bedroom window was enough to keep me going. I look forward to being able to stay at the Irish Rose again! I would recommend it to anyone. It was a quiet and beautiful retreat from our normal daily grind. Thanks again for the hospitality!

We stayed at the Irish Rose a couple of days in mid February. We have been to many rental cabins and Irish Rose is by far the best. The cabin is fully equipped inside out. We love the secluded nature of the cabin. Although we stay during Winter, we would also recommend this place during the Fall. The scenery in the back of the cabin is awesome with many aspen trees. Irish Rose certainly exceeds our expectation. Would definitely stay again.

We just completed our sixth stay at the Irish Rose and as usual enjoyed our time greatly. We experienced three beautiful snows of about three inches each but had no problems since the road in front of the Irish Rose is cleared as soon as the snow stops. We are currently planning our summer trip to this well-maintained, clean, delightful cabin in the valley that we call our home-away-from-home. Benny and Linda Williams, Godley, Texas

Rich and Angela,
We thoroughly enjoyed our visit to the Irish Rose! You have thought of everything to make your guests comfortable. We loved your movie collection, and our daughter loved the kids room with the bunk beds. She especially liked the dancing Elmo dolls and Barbie cash register. That was a bonus we weren't expecting! Thanks for a wonderful weekend. -- Rhonda and Bob Epper, Highlands Ranch, Colorado

Rich and Angela, What a great place! My brother's and I committed last year to get together once a year w/o kids etc. and have a few days of R&R. One lives in Denver, one in Oregon and I live in Ohio. Our four days at your place were spent hiking, relaxing and we went fly fishing for the first time! The bedrooms were very comfortable, the kitchen was well stocked and we enjoyed watching the NHL on the tube. A great weekend with memories for a lifetime! Irish Rose has my vote for the next Boy's Weekend!

Dear Rich and Angela,

I am so sorry for not writing before now. We have
been so busy we can't tell up from down. We need
another vacation at your place!

I wanted to tell you thank you for all of your
hospitality during our stay in May. My wife and I
came out for our 10th Anniversary and absolutely
loved your place. The scenery was unbelievable
and the weather was great. I really enjoyed hiking
around the property and Kay was so kind to give us
some good 'tourist' information on our last day
there. I have to tell you that my wife loved it so
much, she has had me check the weather in Alma
almost daily and is constantly on the lookout for a
job opportunity for me so we can move out there!

Again, thanks so much for the beautiful place and
all the kindness yourselves and Kay showed us
while we were there. We'll email you in the next
few weeks to plan our spring '07 trip!

We had a great time at the Irish Rose this summer. We saw lots of wildlife: deer(including a deer with twins), golden eagles, hummingbirds, warblers. We also drove up to Mosquito Pass, caught some trout, and panned for gold in the Gulch. The house is clean and is stocked with plenty of things to keep everyone busy. We especially appreciated all the information about the history of the area and we got a lot of use out of the maps with jeep and hiking trails.
Sorry it took a while for us to post our comments, its been a busy summer!
Thanks for a memorable vacation!!!

THE IRISH ROSE IS AN AWESOME AND BEAUTIFUL PLACE FOR A HIGH COUNTRY ROCKIES VACATION. WE LOVED IT! EVERYTHING WE LOVE TO DO WAS LITERALLY AT OUR DOORSTEP; ATV RIDING, HIKING, FISHING IN THE CREEK AND JUST RELAXING ON THE DECK IN THE COOL, CRISP AIR. WE HAVE BEEN TO MOST EVERY AREA IN COLORADO, BUT THE IRISH ROSE IS THE PLACE WE WANT TO RETURN TO. THANKS SO MUCH.

What can I say...Colorado is Colorado! This wasn't our first time enjoying what this state has to offer but it was a first staying at 10,600. Your cabin fit well with all we had planned to do in the time we were there. It provided us with a place to "come home to" following our wide range of activities (hiking, fly-fishing, horseback riding, whitewater rafting and a climb up Mt. Sherman). It was very comfortable, peaceful, isolated and need I say with beautiful surroundings. The quick flowing creek added just the right touch. This was what a high-country vacation should be like! Thanks for sharing your place with us and for the great memories.

Lovely cabin. All the amenities of home. We even got to watch the Tour de France via the satellite TV. Enjoyed hiking around the cabin exploring old mine sites. Lovely scenery up the road to Mosquito Pass and the London Mine. Saw several deer and even a young elk buck. Close to shopping (Fairplay and Breck) but remote enough to provide lots of privacy. We look forward to a future stay.

Mom and I had a "girls week" at the Irish Rose and it was the first time we rented a vacation home. We were extremely pleased with our choice. The house is spacious and well equiped with videos/dvds, kitchen supplies (including condiments, spices, utensils), and the surrounding views are wonderful! The location is remote enough so we felt peacfully alone yet close enough to Fairplay and even Breck that we could eat out when we wanted and do the tourist-thing. We would definitely stay here again.
June 8, 2006 The Havely's Denver, CO
What a wonderful cabin! The weather was perfect, except for a few clouds that obscurred the brilliant stars one night. Not many birds, surprisingly, but we were provided a rare treat by getting to see a baby moose!
The cabin had everything you could possibly need, even a coffee grinder, which saved the mornings since I forgot to grind ours before we came up!
Thanks so much for sharing your mountain retreat with us!

Very nice place! They even had champagne glasses (we were celebrating an anniversary)! Very remote, the only bummer was we couldn't take advantage of the awesome firepit due to the fire ban.

Dear Rich & Angela, We greatly enjoyed our stay in
your beautiful cabin. The scenery and siting are
gorgeous and the cabin well designed. It was
perfect as our "overflow" cabin for a family reunion
of 15. The loft bedroom was perfect for the
grandparents (us) and the lower level bedroom for
our daughter and her husband with the three small
grandchildren ideally situated across from them.
The picture window is extravagent and when the
wind dusted up the snow it was a winter
wonderland. The access was open and easily
reached and it was fun to be "at the end of the
road." The only thing that would improve our stay
would have been more days - and for me,
personally, a lack of bronchitis, but if you have to
be sick in the mountains. this was as good as it
gets. Thanks for sharing your mountain home and
we hope you willl soon be retired and able to spend
more time there. Bill and Esther Halling

Great cabin with plenty of privacy. The road from the hiway to the cabin could use some maintenance. we didn't mind the drive back and forth to the ski sloops at all. this is the kind of place I'd be looking for when I retire.
March 10, 2006 Bruce and Maria Mandt Denver, Colorado
What a wonderful setting for a family vacation! We rented the cabin with Maria's parents, brother, and sister-in-law for a three day skiing vacation and mini-reunion. The scenery is breathtaking, the cabin gorgeous (and just the right size for 6 adults), and the short drive to the ski hill is a snap. We will enthusiastically recommend the Irish Rose to our friends. . . as long as they promise not to make a reservation over a weekend when we want it!
March 9, 2006 Jody and Linda Williams Godley, Texas
My wife and I stayed at the Irish Rose the 2nd weekend in January 2006 for the third year in a row and loved every minute of it. The place was well-kept, well-stocked, and fresh and clean, just like during our first stay those few years ago. We're already planning our 2006 summer trip there with the grandkids. We had a great time at the Irish Rose with them last summer.
March 8, 2006 Justin Thole Windsor, CO
We had a great time at the Irish Rose. The cabin is really a "home away from home" type of feel. We spent a couple of days
skiing and snowshoeing in the nearby mountains. The snow was great and so were the spectacular views of the mountains from the west side of the cabin. We would recommend this cabin to any of our friends and family. Thanks for the experience.

We had a wonderful family vacation in September at the Irish Rose. We flew in from Chicago and our daughter, son-in-law and four grandchildren from Colorado Springs met us at the cabin. The home is well-equipped to care for little ones. They loved going on hikes, playing in the stream on the property and having a campfire one night to roast marshmellows.

The Aspen were at their peak and truly awesome. The property is very secluded and yet close to the road. It was breathtaking to view all the stars at night. Our family vacation was perfect and all we had hoped it would be.

It was very pleasant making arrangements with the owners, Rich and Angela Sweeten. We would love to go back again.

We recently returned from 4 nights at the Irish Rose in August '05. We had a great experience. The cabin is well equipped, comfortable and is located in a gorgeous remote location.

As flatlanders, we were amazed by the view from the living room each morning.

A few highlights from our trip: On the drive to the cabin we hiked the Crags trail in Divide with our three kids (10,8 and 5) Great family hike. Horse back riding at Copper Mountain. Hiking the McCullough Gulch trail. (A bit steep for the kids but the view is worth it.)
In short, we highly recommend the cabin. We hope to return someday soon.

The Irish Rose was absolutely the nicest, cleanest, most beautiful vacation rental we've ever stayed at.

It's location is totally unique. You have access to mountains and historical sites using the hiking trails that led right from the front door. It's totally private with no neighbors, and yet it's just a short drive from Breckenridge. We hiked the backyard in the mornings, went to Breckenridge in the afternoon, then came back to relax.

The Irish Rose was absolutely spotless, well furnished, and fully outfitted. Anything you might need to entertain yourself is already there. Fishing gear, binoculars, toys for the kids of all ages, telescope, stroller, snow sleds, gold pans, maps, books, movies, board games, satellite TV, gas barbecue grill, fireplace, loft with a sky light, fully equipped kitchen, wonderful wrap around porch with rocking chairs and a beautiful view of the mountains, a creek in the backyard, a humidifier in every room, washing machine, the list is endless. It's simply incredible.

And it's even kid friendly, furniture with rounded corners, baby gate, electric outlet covers, kid proof decor and wonderfully clean. Our 13 month old daughter even started walking while we were there! I had no concerns about letting her roam around. She fell in love with the kids room and always wanted to go in and explore.

We have never been more impressed and would recommend it to anyone. I don't believe you will find a nicer place to stay Colorado at any price.

The six of us had such a good time. Your place was wonderful, just as we had hoped! We have had some bad experiences from renting off the internet, but your cabin was just as it was represented. We explored the mines, hiked(and biked) up the road, played on the "beach", fished and even played some "horse" with your basketball net, made s'mores at night and really enjoyed the peace and beauty. Thanks so much!

This was our 2nd time at the irish rose. This time we had our son and our friends bought their daughter. We were very impressed with all of the equipment and toys for the kids. you really had everything there. It was terrific and relaxing. Next time we want spring weather so we can hike around. The snow was great too. We enjoyed a very cozy weekend with our friends.

We loved our stay at the Irish Rose. The cabin was very comfortable and well appointed. My gourmet husband treated us all to wonderful meals in your well-equipped kitchen. We woke up Easter morning to 12 inches of snow and fashioned a beautiful Easter bunny snowman. Thank you so much for sharing your cabin with us!!

Our family stayed in the Irish Rose for Christmas 2004. If you like an organized/everythign in its place kind of person...this is the place for you! This cozy cabin had all amemities needed. I cooked extensively and never wanted for a tool or gadget. The sleeping accomdations were comfy (I recommend the downstairs left bedroom for parents. (Turn on the humidifiers as soon as you get there, or your sinus' may get wacky!) The kids love the loft and the bright moon and sunlight does not bother them! The wildlife was wonderful, and the location quite remote. You are a easy 25-35 minutes from Breck, however Hoosier Pass is an easy 4 miles to the summit and actually nice to drive...unlike Monarch Pass, which is a mess in winter. My boys enjoyed the snow hill on the property and all of the provided snow toys! We saw so many tracks...it was fun figuring out what made them with a helpful "book" that is provided in the cabin. Everything was in working order and and was as represented by Rick, Angela and Kay. These kind folks were immensely helpful in executing our Christmas plans (Santa, etc.) The only drawback to us was that we were deep in a valley, and we missed looking out over the mountains and watching cars and lights in the night. EVERYTHING else was just splendid and Christmas 2004 and the special Irish Rose will stay with our family for many years to come! You will not be disappointed with this place unless you want to be "in town" and right where the action is. You choose the pace at the Irish Rose!

It’s Snowing So It Must Be Tuesday
Five AM. I look up through the skylight above my bed and it is covered with snow! So nice! Just like in September when we stayed here and it snowed on Tuesday. We had fun playing in the snow with the grandkids then. Today it is just my wife and I, on our “just us this time” vacation to relax for a week in the quiet Irish Rose and surroundings.
Ten AM. It is still snowing and has accumulated 4 to 5 inches on the porch rails. So pretty to see the snow showers on the mountains up the valley and then to see the snow falling when it reaches the cabin.
We arrived on Friday, December 31st, 2004, to stay eight days, and found the Irish Rose clean, well-stocked and comfortable, as usual.
On Sunday we noticed that there wasn’t enough hot water to complete a shower or bath. We called Kay, the caretaker, on Sunday evening and she had it fixed by Monday noon. One of the heating elements had ceased to heat and was promptly replaced by the maintenance man.
During this week we were entertained by several types of birds, gray squirrels and a fuzzy cottontail rabbit, who all enjoyed the bird food Kay put out or the crackers we fed them. When we were here in September we also saw deer crossing the field southwest of the cabin.
My wife and I call this a cabin, but with 2 regular bedrooms downstairs, two full bathrooms, washer/dryer room upstairs, the large loft bedroom upstairs, and the large living area it seems more like a house to us, and was spacious for the seven of us last September.
This is our third time to stay here and we’ll certainly be back. Rich, Angela and Kay are easy to work with and the Irish Rose is a class act in a beautiful setting.

A very nice cabin with all the amenities one should expect. It snowed a great deal while we were there and the solitude and remoteness where fabulous. Just remember the 4x4 during the winter! The snow on CR12 was up to our knees!

Just a wonderful clean two story cabin just outside Breckinridge. Offers everything. Very cosy, 10 acres to ride 4-wheelers on, Old mine shafts nearby where the kids can hunt for gold. The owner Rich is incredible and easy and friendly to work with. This was an awesome experience, one we plan on doing again and again. A great place to get away. I cannot say enough positive things about this experience. Well worth it and highly recommended.

Everything you have read about the "Irish Rose" is true. Rick and Angela have a lovely place that they have kindly shared with the rest of us. I was fortunate enough to spend my honeymoon up in the beautiful mountain setting and it was the perfect place to relax and enjoy our time together. We took a few side trips including one up Mosquito Gulch. Although the weather was good and the pass was clear, it proved a bit too harrowing for us in an F-150. I wouldn't attempt it in any more than a jeep myself. Other than that, everything that happened was perfect. The home was fully equipped including spices so cooking was enjoyable, and the towns of Alma, Fairplay, and Brekenridge all provided diversions during the day. I highly recommend this to anyone, and look forward to staying again in the future. FAIP MAFIA!

The Irish Rose was great for our
first vacation with our 1-year-old . We
had a lovely view of the changing
trees out the huge cabin windows
and from the huge deck outside. The
cabin had everything we needed,
including a pack 'n play for the baby
to sleep in and outlet covers already
installed. We could be in the loft and
living room and still easily hear the
baby in his room if he needed us. We
had a great hike on the McCullough
Gulch trail to the magnificent lake at
the top. We also drove partway up the
rough road to the Bristlecone Pine
area (one of the handouts from the
ranger station), but our Subaru
wasn't really enough of a 4wd to
make it and we weren't up for the
mile hike from where we could park.
Alma is close (5 min.) and
Breckenridge is a half hour or less
away. The cabin was a lovely place to
be in the beautiful fall weather and
we'll be back for sure.

This place is OUTSTANDING! You will not find a more beautiful, secluded and comfortable cabin than the Irish Rose. Thank you Rich and Angela for sharing your home with us. The Pictures on the Internet just dont capture the reality of how beautiful the Mountains are. The Home is equipped with every possible thing we needed. All you need to do is bring food. We enjoyed hiking up the 3 levels of the Mine located behind the Rose and the girls found tons of "Fools Gold". We traveled up Buckskin Gulch from Alma and relived the Days of the "Gold Rush". Breckenridge was just 17 miles down the road where we enjoyed Horseback Riding and Touring the "Good Ole Boy" Mine. Headed over to Copper Mountain Ski Resort and rode the Chairs up. Hiked the rest of the way to 12,000 feet. At the end of the day, it was great to come back to the Irish Rose, plug in a movie from your video library and just relax. We had a great time. We look forward to returning during the Winter Season to catch the Views with Snow.

The Irish Rose is in a neat location at 10,00 feet elevation. The cabin is comfy and well kept up. We enjoyed the wildflowers, hiking, and history of the area. Nice access to the Continental Divide, trails and restaurants in Fairplay, CO. They take good care of the house and only need to add a map or two of local trails to make it complete!

Homeowner Response: More trail maps are on the way!
August 10, 2004 Ray Crosby Arlington, Tx.
The perfect Colorado getaway. House is well stocked with pamplets and brochures telling about the area. -There are two telephones, one upstairs and one down. One takes messages while you're away. My Verizon cell phone worked, but often went into "roaming". Would recommend having a calling card.-
The service station in Fairplay has excellent maps of the area. - Two 14er's we climbed, Mt. Sherman is 15 minutes south, and Quandary Peak is 15 minutes north. -- Tell Rich that you would enjoy having his mother-in-law Kay drop by if she is around. She's very knowledgable about the area, and a delight to talk to. - You will not be disappointed if you stay here.

As first time guests, my family thoroughly enjoyed the Irish Rose. The location is remote with a beautiful mountain stream and views of mountain peaks. The cottage was thoughtfully equipped. The space is well arranged to allow for adequate privacy, yet open space for spending time together as a family.

My wife did not want to leave.
July 20, 2004 Bill Reno Santa Cruz, CA
What can I say about the Irish Rose other than it was fantastic. What a great basecamp for the Walker party. It is very quite and remote, but very easy to get coffee and eggs in Fairplay when you run out. After climbing 2 14 teeners in one day it was great to come back and watch a video and veg out. The kitchen was great, as Mr. Walker made his famous coconut shrimp and at times held all six of us grabing food and drink to replenish from our days adventures which included trout fishing in the creek, Downhill Mt Biking at Breckenridge, days hikes, early morning runs and backcountry fishing adventure at Hunkey Dory lake.
We will come back soon...

Rich & Angela-

We loved staying at the Irish Rose. The view was stunning and the house was perfect for our family. We enjoyed hiking around the property and finding unique rocks. We went white water rafting one day and spent other days in the surrounding towns. Your kitchen was perfect for all the evening meals we cooked. We had lots of fun at night playing your games around the the fireplace. It was a great escape from the Oklahoma summer heat. The afternoon rains were refreshing too. Hope we can come back next summer! Thanks again for everything.

Rich and Angela, Thank you so much for sharing your beautiful home with us. We thoroughly enjoyed every minute of our vacation. I found myself gazing out of your living room windows and be in awe of the breathtaking view. We spotted some wildlife like Deer and Elk. Your home is also centrally located to a lot of the cites we visited. Thanks again.

THE IRISH ROSE WAS MORE THAN WHAT WE EXPECTED FOR THE PRICE. THE KITCHEN WAS STOCKED WITH MORE APPLIANCES AND KITCHEN WARE THAN WE HAVE IN OUR OWN HOME. THE KIDS LOVED TROUT FISHING AND LOOKING FOR GOLD. THE CABIN WAS BEAUTIFUL WITH THE PINE CEILING AND HUGE WINDOWS. IT WAS VERY PEACEFUL, YET GROCERIES AND FOOD WERE JUST MINUTES AWAY. THE MOUNTAIN HIKEING WAS EASY EVEN FOR THE KIDS. WE'LL BE BACK SOMETIME IN THE WINTER NEXT TIME.

We stayed at The Irish Rose from March 13th thru the 20th. The Irish Rose is absolutely spectacular. The house had everything you could possibly think of. We did a lot of cooking while we were there and the kitchen had everything that we needed. They have an enormous amount of games for the children and also sleds for many of the hills around the house. I couldn't think of one thing that we needed that The Irish Rose did not have ready available. When we arrived at the house there was about a foot of snow on the ground. The second night we were there it snowed at least another 8 to 10 inches. Then it snowed another day, all day. When it finally stopped we had snow above our knees. It was truly breathtaking. The only wildlife we saw were birds, a fox, and a rather large rabbit. Overall, our stay at The Irish Rose was truly amazing. We will definely stay again and would highly recommend The Irish Rose. Thank you, Brian and Kelly Herring.

Snow is falling heavily through the cloudy sky, obscuring Highway 9 ahead at times, but mostly just lifting my spirits since I love the mountains and the snow. Linda, my wife, is helping me watch for the turnoff to the Irish Rose, our rented home-away-from-home for a week. “There it is,” she shouts, “the sign points left to Mosquito Gulch.”
Sure enough, the well-maintained, snow-covered, gravel base road heads off to the left and soon we’re driving past old log cabins and some new construction where locals live year round or visitors come to play.
Soon, here is the Irish Rose, well-identified and covered in snow! How beautiful! Six inches of snow crunch under my boots as I look for a snow shovel and easily find it and a broom by the porch-protected front door. I’ve never shoveled snow before, so it is fun for me and the snow is so light and dry that a shovel-full hardly weighs more than a bucket of feathers.
Path clear. Now, where’s that lock-box with the key to the front door? Yep, right under the stairs like the instructions said. Code punched in, key in hand and we’re bounding up the now snow-free steps and inside in a flash. Wow! Warmth and beauty abound. We explore the place quickly and find that it is well-stocked with silverware, dishes, cooking pots and pans, utensils, paper towels, bath towels, hand towels, etc. The upstairs loft has its own full bath, and there’s a skylight over the bed! Neat!
Now the work, unloading our stuff. The stairs aren’t very long (8 steps) so the climb up is short and we don’t get very winded, probably since we stayed at a relatively high altitude (for us) last night in Pueblo, Colorado.
Stopping to admire the view I am amazed at the snow-covered mountains marching high up both sides of the mile wide valley into the clouds that are slowly sifting down their gift of snow. The large cabin has an unrestricted view of the upper valley to the west. I can see where it narrows higher up and finally disappears into the lower clouds. That must be where Mosquito Pass is located.
Let’s see, the heater is easy to operate, I’ll bump up the thermostat a little. And over there is a TV/VCR/DVD/CD/Radio/Satellite system, books on Colorado, a notebook of details about the place, the local history and the local wildlife.
The temperature was +4 degrees F. when we arrived at about 3 PM local time, but the house is warm and tight. It was hotter upstairs but I turned on the ceiling fan and it’s now about the same temperature as downstairs.
So nice! We like it!

The week has gone quickly but not without 7 days of great times. The Irish Rose is close enough to Alma, Fairplay and Breckenridge that we were able to shop easily for everything we needed and wanted. Everything works well and was as described by the owners. The view is beautiful. We enjoyed the solitude of the place and the nearness to popular places, and we certainly plan to return.

The Irish Rose was home to one of our best vacations ever! We stayed the first week of September 2003 to celebrate my husband's 40th B.day. We have 3 boys (ages 13,8,5) and we all love the great outdoors -- so this was our hub for a week full of biking, rock climbing, fishing, hiking, wildlife watching and relaxation. The cabin is everything you see in the pictures and then some -- sooooo comfortable, and the view was spectacular. We spent alot of time in Breckenridge - what a great town, although I have to admit, having to drive over Hoosier Pass each time was not so fun, but well worth it.
The cabin was extremely neat, and very convenient...the only disappointment for us is that it was not right on the river, so we were not able to let the boys explore/fish down there due to the threat of bears. Overall, an excellent deal for the price. (believe me - I did alot of research for the perfect place to stay).

What a wonderful home! Attention to detail and comfort is very obvious, and the location is absolutely beautiful. The combination of history and nature is packaged in a carefully designed environment in a great location, close to a wide variety of activities. 10+++!
Thank you!

We had a super time. The place is extremely relaxing. In great shape (brand new) and very well appointed. The views are superb. We really enjoyed hiking the verious roads and trails, going up to see the bristlecone pines, and scoping out all the old mines with our field glasses. Would definitely consider coming again.

What a wonderful vacation home.
we could not believe the beauty of this place!
Everything was so clean and beautifully furnished.
There is so much peace and beauty that one would imagine they are in heaven.

Thank you Rich and Angela for sharing your home with us for our vacation.
We have traveled the whole USA and never have we stayed in such a wonderful place!
We do plan to return one day and do it all again!

The Irish Rose is truly a DREAM vacation for all that are seeking cleanliness, beauty and seclusion.
Yes, this is truly ...pure Colorado!

Our stay at the Irish Rose was truly a relaxing and very enjoyable vacation. The views were beautiful, and the cabin itself was well equipped with all the conveniences of home. We had many activities planned before leaving on vacation to Colorado, but found ourselves just hanging out at the cabin quite a bit and enjoying some quality family time. It was great to not have the phone ring for a week solid! If we were to ever go back to Colorado on vacation, we would definitely check into booking the Irish Rose as the place to stay again. We highly recommend it to anyone staying in the Breckenridge area.

WOW! What a great 4 day weekend I had with my three poker playing Buddies! The house is great and the views teriffic. There is lot's of good fishing in the area and countless trails to hike. We fished in the morning and early part of the day then retreated to the house for cards when the afternoon showers began. We will definately be going back to the "Irish Rose".

The Irish Rose was exactly what we were looking for--a secluded spot for a vacation. The views all around the house were spectacular and the sound of the nearby creek was wonderful. It was a wonderful place to stay and I would highly recommend it.

We had a great time at the Irish Rose. Beautiful scenery and lots of peace and quiet. Hiking was fun we brought along our walkie talkies to talk with those back at the house. Well equipped home and very clean and comfortable. Lots to do in the surrounding communities. It does take a while to get to Breckenridge for the main grocery store so stock up while there. There is a small store close by but very expensive. The altitude can affect people, so do take precautions. Some Tylenol is very helpful to have along! This is a beautiful place to vacation.

We couldn't say anything negative about the Irish Rose! It was everything our family was looking for and much more! The cabin was absolutely wonderful; with all the room and furnishings to really feel at home. Lots of extras that we weren't even expecting. We didn't lack for anything.
The peacefulness and serenity of the area were wonderful! If you are looking to get away from the city atmosphere, look no further than the Irish Rose. Who could ask for anything better than a beautiful mountain stream running right outside your door! Our kids were in awe and spent lots of time fishing and just enjoying the water. The area provides plenty of room for hiking and adventure, too. We look forward to visiting the Irish Rose again!

We had a great time at the Irish Rose! The house is beautiful, well kept, and stocked with plenty to do (which is a good thing when it snows a foot of snow!) The view is spectacular! The owners were great to work with too, I highly recommend the Irish Rose!

This is one great cabine. We were looking for a quiet place with the beauty that Colorado has to offer, we found it at the Irish Rose. first class accomodations along with being close to ski areas makes the Rose number one on our list for future ski trips. We can't wait to visit it during the summer.
February 4, 2003 Carlo Ibanez Frisco, TX
Our family had a great time at the Irish Rose over the X'mas holiday. The cabin was certainly first-class - spacious, very comfortable and well-kept. Our family loved the secluded location but still close enough to the ski slopes at Breckenridge. The peaceful atmosphere and undisturbed natural beauty of the surrounding area was a welcome contrast to the hustle and bustle of the ski areas. We had a lot of fun just exploring around the cabin and playing with our kids in the snow. Now we know what the true Colorado experience is all about. Highly recommended.
January 1, 2003 Don Waddill Denver, Co
The rugged backdrop of 14,000 ft snow covered peaks are such a contrast to the warm, modern, cozy beauty that this home truly is. It is so serene that the silence at night hurt my ears! We'll be back!

The place was absolutely beautiful! The cabin is well-kept and cozy. We loved waking up to see the gorgeous view of the mountains. We also saw many wildlife including deers and foxes. It was a wonderful, relaxing mini-vacation for our family. We hope to be able to go back for an extended vacation.

We spent a wonderful weekend here. The adults loved the views and the kids loved the stream. The house is beautiful and well thought out. It really gives the feeling of getting away. Would highly recommend for a weekend or week of relaxation.

My wife & I spent the first week of September at the Irish Rose and had a fantastic time! The cabin was very comfortable and the location is quiet and secluded. The views are great around the cabin and the sky is amazing at night. We managed to hike 4 of Colorado’s fourteeners while we were there. The drive over Mosquito pass is fun if you have a four-wheel drive vehicle to navigate it. It was neat to see so many old abandoned mines in the area – even in the back yard! The aspen were starting to change while we were there which added a lot of color to the already spectacular views. We really enjoyed our stay and would recommend the Irish Rose to anyone looking for a great getaway in Colorado.

What a treat it was staying at the Irish Rose. My husband and I ofen camp through Colorado mountains over the summer season. We truly enjoyed the accomodations and the beauty of the mountain surroundings this summer at Irish Rose.
Rudy loves to gold pan, and was thrilled to have access and materials to enjoy gold panning during his stay. We are full time skiers and will definatley be back to enjoy the property over the ski season.
Thanks again for creating a wonder place for many to enjoy. Michelle & Rudy Kaluza

My husband and I stayed a week in July at the Irish Rose. It was a true Colorado experience. The view from the vaulted windows is fantastic. Our walks around the property were very interesting because of all the mining history. That plus the home is quite comfortable. One is not roughing it in the least. The facilities are complete and beautifully decorated. The house is also very close to interesting places such as Breckenridge and Fairplay and Mosquito Pass which my husband and I crossed in our four-wheeled truck. Quite an adventure. We are looking forward to returning to the Irish Rose for a longer stays at different times of the year.
August 25, 2002 Debbie & Kayla Englewood, Colo.
We were fortunate to have visited the Irish Rose earlier this summer when the mornings were still cool, but the days were warm and sunny. What a wonderful experience! We enjoyed a weekend getaway from the hustle of the city (less than 2 hrs. from Denver)and were amazed by the views and spacious areas. In the early morning quiet, I took in some solitude on the private balcony off of the master suite upstairs. The sun was shining just right in the perfect spot as it came up over the mountains and I could hear the birds chirping nearby. I even had a visitor: a hummingbird! What a respite from the citylife. My teenage daughter and I hiked and explored and couldn't get over the peacefulness of the area. From a trail above the Irish Rose, it looks like there's no civilization to be found! We took walkie-talkies to communicate with others back at the cabin and they worked great. The facilities are very comfortable, clean, and inviting. We can't wait to return in the fall when the aspen leaves are changing. It's absolutely breath-taking!
August 22, 2002 Erdy family
The Irish Rose was the best family vacation we have taken! Our sons caught trout in the beautiful stream behind the cabin. Megan gathered rocks for her collection everyday. We explored the rich history of the area on daily hikes. We were never bored! We did a cattle drive about an hour away, north on Rte.9. Definitly worth it. The panoramic views from the ranch were spectacular.
The milky way was like nothing we had ever seen before. The night sky was so awesome, it was humbling.
The boys golfed at 9000ft. at Copper Mountain. These activities are not far away, but just far enough to keep the area rural and uncongested.
The cabin was as comfortable as home and very thoughtfully furnished. It was perfect to wake up to such magnificent views and relax on the deck with a cup of coffee.
It would take pages and pages to describe the great fun we had at the Irish Rose. We all want to go back.

Sincerely,
The Erdys

My wife & I thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Irish Rose. Peaceful, relaxing and What A View! We explored the old mine, panned for gold (no luck), visited the goat cheese place, hiked and just relaxed. Good eats at "Alma's Only Bar" and at the Swiss place in Breckenridge. Interesting little food store in Alma. The house is very comfortable, clean and there's that view--everywhere. Plenty of peace & quiet, too. We'd certainly come back.
August 22, 2002 Sadie Madison, Kay
Sorry to take so long to write this letter regarding our stay at the Irish Rose. It was so exciting to see so much wildlife. What more could a person ask for? Our hikes were treasure hunts, checking out mine and mill sites, and trails among the pines and aspen and leave the city life far behind us. The house was furnished with all the essentials we needed and was so comfortable and the loft skylight seemed to let the stars come right into the house. The historic auto tour information left for visitors proved to be very helpful and the 4 wheel drive over Mosquito Pass and up Buckskin into Kite Lake were unforgettable experiences. We came for the solitude and we would return for that reason and so much more. A true adventure...would love to come back for the skiing season and enjoy the warmth of the fireplace while taking in the spectacular winter view.
