Your anticipation grows as you drive over the causeway leading to Sanibel Island. Along the drive enjoy viewing the glistening blue waters, the wind surfers, sailboats and surfcasters. Up in the clear blue skies, watch hang gliders play with the fresh warm air currents of Florida's "winter". The island mode...a way of life now begins to take hold of your senses.
On Sanibel you will quickly realize the peaceful natural beauty of this island. Your accommodation is located in the Dunes Community, a charming neighborhood of Florida style homes nestled around the Dunes Golf and Tennis Club and it's magnificent 18 hole golf course.
Each day you can choose to engage yourself in any number of vacation activities. You can go shopping in the countless and inviting little shops located along Periwinkle Way, walk the beaches and go shelling or open a beach chair and relax as pods of dolphins pass by close off shore.
To satisfy your more active desires, you may wish to play 18 holes at The Dunes or on any number of courses close by. Play a couple sets of tennis, ride bikes along the miles of island trails, catch redfish, snook and grouper off the fishing pier, surfcasting or on one of many fishing charters available. Take a canoe ride through the mangroves located in Florid's world renowed nature preserve, J.N. Ding Darling or rent a motorboat and explore small and ofter uninhabited islands of the shore of Sanibel.
To satisfy those hunger pains, the options are countless. For breakfast there are gourmet coffee and muffin shops and quaint little restaurants everywhere serving full selections. Finding that restaurant is easy whether looking for a relaxed lunch with a marina view or an elegant more formal dinner is no hard task on Sanibel. A great number of restaurants await you. From seafood to northern Italian to steakhouses, all are easy to find on Sanibel. If you choose to stay close to home, you are just steps away from the Dunes Clubhouse, home to the award winning Rassa Steak and Seafood Restaurant which is open for lunch and dinner. Or just stay at home cooking on your gas grill, enjoying a cocktail and sunset on the lanai.
